Hi everyone,
I used to come to this board a lot (at least I think it was this one...ever since they re-did the layout around ivillage, I'm cornfused! Is there another 100 lbs board around here? lol) a few months ago, but I kind of fell off the wagon. The good news is, I fell off because I quit smoking. I had lost about twelve pounds up to that point, but I gained 7 back when I quit smoking. But I want to get back at it again, have been for about a month now, but I'm not doing so good on my own. My husband bought me an exersize bike, and I ride that for a half an hour, about 4-5 days a week on average, and on the days I ride it, I always end up drinking lots of water, a good 6 cups a days at the least. And I love exersizing...I do it in the morning and it's better than coffee....gives me so much energy. But man, it makes me so hungry! lol And of course I don't always make good food choices. Oh sure, I eat that apple for a snack afterwards....right along with a bag of chips, or a piece of the cornbread I managed to convince myself I was making for my son. lol Man, every day I get up and I exersize and it gives me so much energy, and I feel so good about myself...then I go and blow it by eating something with too much fat and calories. Or just eat too much period.
So....I figured I'd come back here. Something about being here last time really helped me. Right now, I'm about 240, and I want to get down to 150, so I have about 90 pounds to lose.
Also, I haven't looked around the whole board yet, but I'm also wondering.....what do you guys snack on?? Anything good that fills you up? I have to admit I'm a carb junkie...sugar and bread-type stuff are my weaknesses...cakes, cookies, etc. Ugh.
Anyway, looking forward to being a part of the group. Gonna go look around and see how things work. :)

(((((Joanne))))), you managed to come here about a week after a major ivillage makeover.
Welcome JoAnne! I am glad you have come back! I love your logo...I think I am going to change mine. I have to go there and look and see what is available...I just thought my frog looked so cute.
Well, let's see, I did Atkins about 2 years ago and fell off the wagon. It took a long time to gain back what I had lost. But I did...so early November of last year I came back. I am just doing low carb and (trying) the low fat thing.
You need to decide what diet plan you want to follow, then see what snacks you can have on that plan.
On Atkins, I have the sugar free Jello with 2 tablespoons of whip cream on top. But most of the time I just have the bare jello cause it's good. Atkins ahs the drinks that are like shakes to me that are replacement meals and the breakfast bars. There is a lot of product to pick from on the market now. I can also get all kinds of candy that is sugar free. I am not a sweet tooth type person but I am a carboholic. Which is what I learned when I first went on Atkins. But to me it is hard to be on Atkins because I miss the bread and the fruit.
The low carb diet for dummies book says you can have bread it is a better book to follow for if you want to follow a low carb diet. (In my opinion) But I am thinking about changing to WW which what I did along time ago. I don't remember why I stopoed doing WW. What ever the reason it must have been stupied. I guess I just wanted varity. In any case I did lose a lot of weight on WW just really slow...and come to think about it not any slower than this time around. But reasoning that substitute sugar slows down weight loss. So...that is probably why.
Remember Las Tress Puntas (1) drink lots of water (half your weight in oz.); (2) down size your protion serving sizes; and (3) exercise....that is really all it is. Learn to what is healthy...usually fresh veggies and less meat. Do these things and you're free to go!
Gosh! Now if I can follow my own advise. (hehehehe)

Hi Joanne:
Welcome to the group. I know how you feel. My ex-favorite snack is cheetos and diet coke :-). I too, like my carbs. The way I handle it is portion control. I too like cornbread and can eat 1/4 of a batch in one sitting. I have found that if I make it into muffins, I have automatic portion control and it is easier to eat just a little. I make my own muffins. That way I control the size, fat and I always try to include a lot of fiber and nutritious ingredients like dried fruit and nuts. My muffins are usually 200 - 250 cal., a lot less than the 400 - 600 cal. bakery muffins that are sooo easy to eat. I can bake a batch of 12 and put them in the freezer. I'll usually have 1 a day as my afternoon snack. Another good snack is soy nuts. They are full of fiber and nutrition and 1/4 cup is incredibly filling.

My little logo thing is supposed to be a coffee cup...cause I'm addicted to the stuff. LOL But I have to agree...the frog *is* pretty cute.
Thanks for the tips. Right now, I'm just doing low-fat, do it myself at home type of diet. Truth is, I can't really afford much else. lol I had to laugh at your last line, where you said now if you could only follow your own advice. Now, technically, I *know* what I"m *supposed* to do. My mom lost around 90 pounds like ten or eleven years ago, and she and I discussed it all the time, plus I got to watch her go through it. But doing it, well, that's the hard part. Oh, and I asked about snacks cause I was just curious to see what everyone else snacks on, see if something ticled my fancy, 'cause I"m getting bored with my own. I was snack huntin'. lol
Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions!

Hi Rae,
Thanks for the ideas. Hmmmm.... I usually just buy a box of the stuff, but maybe I'll go looking for recipes. And thanks for the suggestion about soy nuts....my son brought some home that he got in a sack lunch from school one day, and I tried some and loved them. I'll have to look them up at the grocery store when I go tomorrow.

Hi Joanne,
Welcome back and big CONGRATS on quiting smoking! I did it 1.5 years ago and went through the weight gain thing so I completely understand.
Snacks? To be honest I'm trying to avoid them at all costs. Then again, I have it easy, I'm single and I live alone so I don't keep anything in my kitchen to tempt me...too much. I try to keep things like yogurt (for my after dinner snack), all kinds of fruit and raw baby carrots nearby.
I do have a problem with an addiction to chocolate but I started to buy 70% cocoa Lindt chocolate...expensive and rich...and have learned to limit myself to two blocks of the bar - and that's usually once every couple of days.
Nightime is my enemy...that's the lonely time...it becomes the grazing time. So to help me out, once seven o'clock hits I floss and brush my teeth. I'll occassionally eat something but it tentds to taste awful so it doesn't happen often.
Hope that helps!
Cheers
