Anyone catch cnn's fat chance? http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/presents/
They gave 7 tips for losing weight and keeping it off. Let me see if I can remember them.

1.Expect to fail but keep trying
2.Exercise 1 hr a day
3.Eat several small meals a day
4.Eat a low fat/high carb diet
5. weigh often

They had two more, but I don't remember them. They showed 2 people that had lost weight and kept it off for several years. The depressing part is that they exercised for over an hour a day and said that was the only way to lose the weight. They also pointed out that a majority of people are going to fail. I don't have time or the desire to exercise several hours a day. If I listened to this show then I might as well give up because I will never be able to lose the weight. I am going to take their tips and start exercising more, but the whole show was rather overwhelming. It was like a huge slap in the face that I will always be fat because most people fail. Anyone else see this. What did you think?

I didn't catch the show but I don't agree with them. I have tried for about 15 years to lose weight and have not succeeded. I have tried weight watchers, low fat diets, joining the health club, sweating to the oldies, etc, etc. I never lost more than a couple of pounds on any of those diets. My doctor recently told me that I have pre-diabetes and I need to cut out sugar and carbs, so I went on the Atkins diet. I got all of the info. I needed from www.atkins.com, but I went out and bought the book anyway. It has really done wonders for me and I have only been on it for five weeks. I have tons of energy and I have lost 16 pounds, plus I am never hungry. I was 384 at the end of Dec. and now I am 368. I can't believe how easy is it. I eat all kinds of things that should be bad for me and still loose weight. The only drawback is that you have to drink like a gallon of water a day to keep your kidneys flushed out. I don't do much exercising yet, unless you count the zillion trips to the bathroom, but I think I will start walking as soon as the weather clears up. I know that everyone loses weight on different plans but this one sure works for me. Good luck and don't give up.

Well I think it was a slap in the face too!

One diet may not work for one person but can work for another. And to tell a person they will fail sets that person up for failure. So to heck with them!

I do agree you have to drink lots of water half your weight in oz. and portion control is also very important and finally exercise

Tamara- I just purchased the DC Walking Off The Pounds" because I have very bad knees. And I can do this CD! I found it at Barnes and Noble book store. I walked a mile on Saturday in my living room and best of all I COULD DO IT!

I plan to walk a mile every other day until I can do it every day then increase to the two mile walk. I am so happy. I hope you look for this CD and try it.

I agree with the others....that *was* a slap in the face. Like, gee thanks....I wasn't depressed already all by myself. ugh.

But I don't agree with this, either. First off, I think Sussie's right about diets--everybody's body is different and sometimes it's just finding the right one for *your* body.

As for the exercise thing--Yeah, okay, maybe after awhile you'll need to increase the time you do it. And you might eventually work up to an hour, the better in shape you get. But I think that anything you do, even just ten minutes every other day, is better than not exersizing at all, especially in the beginning.

As for the eat several small meals a day one....this one I agree with. I'm less hungry if I eat 6 small meals a day rather than 3 big ones. I'm less likely to be starving when I sit down to eat, so therefore less likely to binge. I'm also less likely to graze (as in, "I can't wait another hour for lunch; I'm starving now! Maybe I'll just have one little cookie to tide me over."). So having something (healthy) to eat between meals becomes not so forbidden.
