I don't know any hard facts on when it's best to stop eating before bedtime(want to say I've heard 3 to 4 hours though),but when I lost weight successfully the first time,I wouldn't eat after 7PM.I had kept the weight off for 5 years back then.
I try to stop eating at around 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. and go to bed between 10:00 and 11:00. But that's what works for me. I have heard however that it really doesn't matter when you eat but rather what you eat. I'm rather doubtful of that for me but for others it may work.
I don't think there's any hard and fast rule concerning it. I don't eat after 9 usually unless I'm starving and then I have a mini bag of popcorn. I'd say just experiment with it and see what works best for you as far as hunger/craving goes in the evening. Don't deny your body if you feel hungry after a certain time.
