I wanted to take the time to introduce myself...I'm Lori, and I've been overweight almost all my life, save the first 4 years of my existence. I am 260 and am looking to be around 145-150, so I need to lose about 110-115 pounds. My highest weight ever was 288, and I lost 87 pounds, only to regain 60 back :( I really need to do it this time, because I have glucose intolerance, and knocking on the door of diabetes if I don't get this under control (I'm 26 by the way). I've started adding a lot more fruit and veggies to my diet, and trying to significantly cut out the fat and sugar (although I do cave in from time to time). I've also started walking again, but it's so hard to find the motivation sometimes...I like to walk outside, but it's still pretty cold here in Wisconsin. I would like to know how anyone here got (and more importantly, stayed) motivated to eat right and exercise...is it something you just did, or did you find that you had to have a different thinking process/attitude before engaging in a healthier lifestyle? Thanks, and I hope to get to know all of you better :)

Small world!! I'm from Dubuque, Iowa. That's really close to Platteville! I'm living in North Carolina now, but I miss the Tri-State Area!

I live only 20 minutes from Dubuque, and do all my shopping there LOL...in fact, several years ago, I used to live there on West 17th Street and I worked at Target as a cashier...perhaps we've met before! :)

Hi, Jeni
The same thing happened to me in regards to gaining the weight back...as I had mentioned in another post, I had lost about 86 pounds, and was only 2 pounds away from being an 100-something pound person (gosh, I haven't been that since I was 18...almost 9 years ago). At the time, I was dating someone, and all we did was go out to eat...and I got lazy on top of it, so guess what...50 pounds back in a flash :(
I think you're right about having to make small changes and taking a step at a time...I've been drinking diet soda now instead of regular, and now the regular almost tastes too sugary (which, of course, it is!)...I find it very difficult to drink just plain water, so I have to buy that propel water for it to actually be palatable.
Thanks for writing, and good luck with your program...we can do it! :)
