Hi All,

Thanks again for all your support of me in my first post :)

So, I did it again. I got frustrated, and I ate becasue I was upset. So, I am soliciting your expertise in how to overcome emotional eating. Any help you have will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe categories would help? How do you stop from eating when you are down? Upset? Really happy? Or are there techniques that work no matter what the emotion?

Thank you,

-Denise

Hi Denise,

Like you I'm an emotional eater, especially when I'm bored or feeling alone (which is most evenings around 8:00 p.m.).

I've been overcoming the temptation to eat by picking up my sketch book again, and taking up knitting. As long as my hands are busy I'm doing okay.

Another little trick is once I get that desire to much for the sake of munching I either get on the floor and do some crunches or pick-up my hand weights and do some strength exercises.

It's tough though and I'm not always that strict with myself but you need to take it one step at a time.

Good luck!

Well...I too am an emotional eater. BUT, I also eat because I LOVE food.

Like Shawna said... have some good snacks ready for this occasion. And, I think waiting 30 minutes is a great idea. (going to try that one too Shawna)

I would also recommend doing some Yoga or Tai Chi daily to help with the emotion and stress.

David Carradine has a 2 part video for $14.+ , and some meditaiton music. Might be worth your while. This web site offers a freebe... http://www.freegiftworld.com (of which I have not tried) and I ordered my video from this web site http://www.naturaljourneys.com

I am a major emotional eater here. As the others have said exercise is a great way to help with daily stress. The biggest thing to help me is to keep all trigger foods out of the house. That way when I am having a bad day the only thing I can eat is something healthy. I hope you get some good ideas.
