Hi Ladies,
I'm a board oldie (but hopefully a goodie). I left the board probably about 6 months ago because I've given up dieting. I discovered that dieting was contributing to my weight gain since I was in a diet-binge-diet-binge cycle. For a while I didn't feel like I could post here without being "triggered" to pick up WW or without feeling like an outsider for not having a set diet.
WELL, I AM trying to lose the weight even if I'm not on a formal diet, so I'm going to start posting here again. I miss the support from all of you and I really need to get myself in gear.
I've been seeing a therapist who is helping me deal with my food/dieting addiction and working on losing weight slooowly. The bad thing is, I haven't lost any weight. I've been doing pretty well and my therapist and I are both disappointed. BUT, I just found out that a medication I am on decreases metabolism by up to 12%. I'm a big nerd so I went and got studies from the medical library about my blood pressure medication and discovered that it causes weight gain and makes it extremely difficult to lose weight. I'm seeing my doc on Friday and he's going to switch me to a different med (or I'm switching to a different doc). I'm hoping this will jump-start my weightloss.
Anyway, I missed those of you that I knew, and I'm excited to meet everyone else.

Hey Erin!

I thought about doing that too. The trouble is, how do you find a therapist who specializes in food issues?

Thanks for the welcome back, everyone! I really appreciate it!
Deb, I called my insurance company and asked for a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. I am getting over some binge eating issues, so I wanted someone who knew about binge eating disorder. Now, technically that's not an official diagnosis right now (at least according to the insurance companies and the diagnostic manuals) but that's gonna change in the next few years, I think. I don't know if you binge or just overeat, but someone with eating disorder training could probably help.
If you don't have insurance you could just try calling some therapists and asking them what they specialize in.
