I weigh 234 lbs. I lost two pounds last week. I was just diagnosed with diabetes last week and started eating low carb. I am starting the Medifast diet for diabetics today. I am worried that the transition to mostly shakes will be hard. I will let you guys know how it goes!

It is type 2 diabetes. One of the reasons I picked Medifast is because I want to lose weight quickly in order to get my diabetes in check! I know that a life of shakes is not one I will live forever. I have put on my weight over the last 3 years. I weighed 117 pounds for most of my adult life. I had a problem with alcohol, which packed on the pounds. I also became very sedentary after getting married and becoming a housewife. THEN, I started some meds which are known to cause weight gain and developed a thyroid condition which didn't help. Of course, I also loved my Stouffer's lasagna, macaroni and cheese and chocolate cake!!! This is my first day on the shakes. There are also soups, bars and oatmeals as meal substitutes. I have had three "meals" today. Two shakes and a soup. The soup was nasty and next time I will flavor it with my own bouillion cubes, which is allowed! I can have two more shakes today and if I want a small meal of lean protein and greens. So I am ok...it is almost dark! Thanks for the support! For those who are unfamiliar with the diet, learn about it at www.medifastdiet.com

Welcome to the board! I'll be curious to hear about the Medifast diet.

One of my primary reasons for finally taking control of my weight is that diabetes runs in my family and I'd like to avoid it at all costs.

Hope you're doing well with it.

Cheers
Lisa
