I do. The Dr. told me to follow a plan like sugar busters that cuts out all sugar and eats whole grains.(the short version.) I would think any diabetic diet would work. The main thing is to cut out the sugar and watch the carbs you eat.(stay away from white rice, white flours etc.)

If you think you are insulin resistant than you really should see your Dr. You may need to be put on medication to control it, but it could be something that can be controlled by diet alone.

Why do you think you have insulin resistance? I'm curious what you mean by that. Do you have a familly history of diabetes? I'm what they call pre-diabetic, but I'm working like hell to make sure I never become diabetic. I think there is a lot of misinformation about insulin floating around right now, so I wouldn't panic until you have gone to the doctor and actually had a blood test. I know that actually being diabetic makes it harder to lose weight, but I don't know the facts about insulin resistance.

I actually went in for testing this last week, my fasting blood sugar was 120, the doc said 126 is the cut off for diabetes, but you need to consistently test that high to actually be diabetic.

Weight loss will help you metabolize glucose better, if you are overweight.

Hope that helps!

Hi Allena and welcome to the board!

I have insulin resistance...honestly, I don't know if it will prevent weight loss, but I do know that exercise helps the insulin enter your cells, therefore lowering your glucose (blood sugar) levels.

I understand your apprehension about going to the doctor, but honey, this is something that needs to be monitored and taken care of...you don't wanna let this go, because if it truly is insulin resistance, it most likely will lead to diabetes in the not-so-distant future...I am seriously kicking myself in the pants right now, trying to reverse the condition so that I don't get diabetes, or at least, prevent the onset of it until later in life...I would make an appointment with your doctor ASAP and get some bloodwork done...true, it's not fun, but at least you'll know where you stand...I think sometimes NOT knowing is scarier than facing the reality and dealing with it from there. I usually go to the doctor every six months to a year to get my blood drawn to see where I'm at as far as blood sugar goes...that way, if I do become diabetic, it will be caught early enough that I will have better control over the condition. Please take a stand for yourself and your health...even if it isn't what you want to hear, you will be better off for it...trust me :) Take care...
