When I was growing up my dad used to us if we're not gonna go do a good job then don't do it all.
I always like to do a good job no matter what it is I do. When it comes to eating healthy though, that is what kept me many times from getting started. I thought if I was not ready to go for it all the way then I should just wait till I am ready. Many many many pounds later I figured looked back at all the calories I could have saved even if I did not go for a total healthy lifestyle.
I believe even the small steps forward will help you get there. Even if you slip and fall along the way or backtrack, don't get discouraged. You can always get going back in the right direction.
Now I am not talking about yo-yo dieting or fad diets. I dont even like to call it a diet. Anything you eat is your diet. Eating healthy, healthy exercise, good mental health, healthy relationships and balance in all areas of your life all work together to help you achieve all your goals. If part of your life is out of balance then it makes it very difficult to achieve real success in other areas.
So, I guess what I mean to say is, if you mess it up one day, one week, month or whatever... as long as you are still living and breathing, you can always get back on track. Until you are in a place to live a totally healthy lifestyle then do every bit that you can. Every step forward is one step closer.

I actually think we should bother even if we don't do our best. Doing your best all the time in a weight loss journey is really hard, but that doesn't mean we should just give up because we have some bad days, weeks, or even months. Maybe doing your best is working out 6 days a week, but one week you only do 3. You shouldn't stop exercising just because you didn't do your best. Those 3 workouts are still helping your body become healthier, doing nothing is going to, well, do nothing for you. I have every intention of doing my best each morning when I wake up, doesn't always happen, for the past 6 months or so it definitely hasn't. BUT I haven't let myself give up and I don't plan to. I know that as long as every morning I'm willing to renew my efforts no matter what the outcome then I'm taking steps toward my goal.
It isn't a bad quote, and if it gives YOU motivation then more power to ya! But personally I don't agree that it is the way to go in our weight loss journey.

I agree you should always try your best, Even though you can't always be perfect you should always try your best.
