Hi everyone,I am new here and need lots of help. I am 6'3" and 315lbs. I have a very bad back and can't do alot of exercise.I really need to lose the weight because it is getting very painful just to walk around these days. I am a horrible emotional eater, the pain from my back makes me depressed even more so I just want to eat.It just seems like a never ending cycle.I hate the way I look, since being disabled I have gained about 100lbs in two years.I really want to lose the weight. Does anyone have any advice on how not to binge eat at night? I am about ready to put locks on all my cabinets and give the key to my husband so I won't eat at night. I would love to hear from anyone.
Thanks

Hi there – I used to do the same – not only eat because of emotional issues but because I was bored and sitting in front of the TV till midnight…It’s a hard habit to break but if you want something bad enough you’ll do anything. What I did for myself was set a time that I could not eat after. For instance my cut off time for myself is 7 or 8. I do not eat any later than that. Well I try anyways – having a bit of popcorn while watching a movie can’t be that bad! I’ve been told not to eat about 2 hours before you go to bed…If that doesn’t work like if I didn’t eat a big enough lunch or dinner to keep myself full feeling. I will take out the board games and play Connect 4 or Battleship with my boyfriend and before you know it a couple of hours have passed and I’m ready to go to bed! I’ve noticed with myself the only time I’m hungry is when I sit there and think about food. Only time I think about it now is when my stomach starts growling and you can’t ignore it. I’ve been in a couple of car accidents, just recently in January. So I know how it feels to be in pain especially the back (I have herniated disks in my C6 & C7), but carrying the extra weight is doing nothing but hurting you. Trust me I know I'm 26 and I feel like 90 when I get up. And I know deep down that in order for my body to heal itself correctly I need to be fit.

As for the exercising have you looked into something like water aerobics?

Hi I am also new I don't have any back problems, but I also like to sit infront of the tv and eat. I find it easier to eat dinner and go right in and brush my teeth because I don't want to have brush again before I go to bed I won't eat or drink anything but water. I also try to go to bed early, and get a good nights sleep. Then you wake up refreshed and you can get in an early morning exercise. Good luck on your weight loss keep us posted.

Hi and welcome. It is funny, but now that you mention it, I used to have a baby lock on my fridge to keep the kids out. I found that when I went to binge it made me stop and think about what I was grabbing. I ended up throwing all the bad stuff out. We actually are keeping the girl scout cookies in the car. Good luck with your weight loss journey. I think you will find this to be a very supportive group of ladies . sharla

Welcome. This is a great place to be. You are ahead of the game in knowing what needs to change. I was a little slow in realizing how much I grazed in the evenings. Now, 7pm is my very strict cutoff time for eating. It had to be cold turkey (pardon the food pun) for me and it was sooooo hard the first few days. Keeping a cup of chamomile or peppermint tea sitting next to me to sip on helps. I am sleeping much better at night and more alert in the mornings. It wasn't easy to make this change but well worth the effort. Good luck! LK
