Well, at least sort of a newbie...I've lurked around here on & off the past few years, not really ready to commit to weight loss. Well, that all changed 5 weeks ago when my doctor said a few very scary words: "You're pre-diabetic, and unless you lose weight and eat better, you'll be an insulin-dependent diabetic in no time." Yep, that did it. So 36 days ago, I went & bought myself a scale (hadn't had one in over a year), and with my doctor's advice, starting eating better and getting more activity into my daily routine.

I started on February 14 weighing 356.0 pounds. (And yet with good cholesterol levels--a miracle!) My doctor helped me set short-term and long-term goals. Here's that list:
April 4- 340lbs
May 9- 330 lbs
June 13- 320 lbs
July 18- 310 lbs
August 22- 300 lbs
By my 30th birthday (December 7, 2006), I should be at my goal weight of 150 lbs. My Dr. figures if after the first short-term goal I lose about 2 lbs per week, I should be able to meet my goals. He did remind me to look at the whole picture, though. Some weeks I'll lose 4 lbs, some I won't lose any.

I've got a good start going. I was at 340.8 yesterday. Just 0.8 lbs to lose to meet my first short-term goal. I hope to reach that by my next weigh-in day next Monday. (I would love to reach my first goal a week early!) I can't believe I've already lost 15.2 lbs! It's such a great feeling! The best part is that the pants & skirts that were feeling a bit snug are now fitting pretty comfortably and the buttons on my blouses don't pull anymore!

So now that I'm really committed, and on my way, I feel safe to start posting, and hanging around here more often!

PS- is it start weight, current weight, short-term goal, long-term goal? I can't remember, so that's how I'll put it for now.

Welcome to the board! I am pretty sure we just do start weight/current weight/goal weight. Either way, so far it looks like your doing good. :)
