So irritable and moody!

I am a whack job! I had an appointment with my doctor about my type 2 diabetes today. I was just diagnosed in early March. I was in the hospital at the time for a related illness. Anyway, there I was given a prescription for Actos, a diabetes medication. I ran out last week and called my doctor for a refill. The assistant who answered the phone said I could not get a refill unless I saw the doctor first since she didn't originally prescribe the med. They said I couldn't come in until today at 9:45am. I was not pleased because I need the medication and also because I need to get her Rx for my glucose monitor. So I show up this morning. They have no record of my call or appointment. They refuse to work me in today. They say that the conversation never took place. They say I can't have a prescription. I was feeling irritable before the appointment. I have been having bouts with insomnia, and I had been up since 2am. Well, no more excuses..to make a long story short, I went OFF!!! I dropped the F bomb. I yelled. I yelled at the nurse in the back and then walked through the waiting room yelling...so so embarrassing. I am going to have to find a new doctor so I can get my medicine. I also take stuff for my thyroid. I just lost it because I felt that my doctor did not really care about my health and it hurt my feelings. I guess since I am not covering or stuffing my feelings by overindulging in food or booze, I have a surplus!

I have to say, as a past clinic nurse, the way you were treated is absolutely deplorable and you have every right to be upset.

Sorry you had a rough time this morning. Doctors offices can be horrible places. It is really frustrating when you feel like no one is willing to help you when you need it most. I would certainly write a letter to the personal manager of the clinic. And switching Dr.'s in always an option...they are there to serve you.

What happened to you is awful. In the quote from your post it says you called because you were out of meds -- they should have fit you in or sent you to the ER or referred you to someone else. You cannot wait till whenever for meds. I am not clear from below on whether you have a monitor or not -- if not definately call your local ER and see what they suggest -- with the upset today and no medication-- I am concerned your sugar may be way off.

You poor thing...

That idiot could of done something to help you out a little more instead of just blowing you off. I don't blame you. I probably would of been hard pressed to keep my tongue also.

I know about the F-bomb. Working for the PD, I've definately picked up the lingo. I would be embarrassed too, but you can only take so much. What I don't understand is why they would refuse you when this isn't somthing to play with?

I didn't read anyone else's posts, so they may have given you better advice. Just sideing with you...]

You had every right to go off like that and I am guessing that most people have felt that one and wished they did what you did. GOing without meds is a life or death situations and they shouldn't be playing around with that. Go back to the ER or an urgent care clinic and start making calls to find a new DR today. sharla

It doesn't sound like you over-reacted or anything like that. You DO deserve to be seen. It's your health and if your Doctor doesn't seem that it's important enough to fit you in,you deserve to be pissed off.I'm glad you'll be looking for another doctor, and don't be embarrassed....your health is #1 priority.
