I need some support! I started a diet today--I've never been able to stick to a diet. I want to lose 120 pounds. Anybody got any good advice?

Hi and welcome. The best advice I know is to keep trying and to take it one day at a time. There will be days you don't eat as well as you should and weeks that you don't lose like you think that you should. Just start over the next day and you will reach your goal. Journaling has helped me a lot. By writing everything down it makes me think about what I am eating and how little things can add up. I hope you find lots of support here and best of luck. It is hard at first but well worth it. sharla

My only advice is for you to keep trying and not give up.

Good advice,so I'll only add that a great place to journal is www.fitday.com .Like SHarla and Shawna said, take it day by day and don't give up.If you don't do well one day,get right back into the next.Good luck and post often....this place is wonderful!

Welcome. You've taken a first step, coming here. I am only 8 weeks into this new healthy lifestyle but I'll share what has helped me. The food journaling is great and taking it one day at a time. You need to find a plan that you can live with for now. Since I have over 100+ to lose I am leaving myself open to changing things up as I move along. For now I am doing a lot of walking (because I like it) and low fat meals. But I will change it, if/when I get bored or stuck. My most successful tip has been NO SNACKING after 7pm. It has worked wonders for me and I credit my weightloss to that alone. Yes, I have gone to bed hungry a few times but that is not necessarily a bad feeling and I eat a healthy big breakfast the next morning. Again, that has been my key but you need to find what will work for you. Good luck! LK

For me in the beginning it was portion control....I've downsized that over the years considerably. And it help big bunches!

This week I decided to start eliminating stuff from my diet that have a lot of fat. And the winner is Pork Products...yes I love most pork products but they make me sick and keep me from losing weight.

So first step is to eliminate chops, ham, then bacon. That is the only pork products I eat. In that order...I will do it a littlle at a time it will take about a year...look at it like a smoking addiction...took you a long time to get hooked and it will take a long time to get over it...

Unlike smoking it doesn't mean that I will never have bacon again...I just will not normally serve it each month...I know my DH will just die when I break the news on this one. hehehe
