Ok, I posted this on the Healthy Eating board. I wanted their take on it and I also want all you dear ladies to tell me what you think as well! Hugs, Debbie
I've been trying to lose a substantial amount of weight for YEARS. SOmething always derails me. Injuries from over-zealous execrcising, depression coupled with stress (leads to binging), and the worst offender: People Who Don't Get It.
Ok, here's what I mean by People Who Don't Get It (or PWDGI): They are the ones who tell you one (or all) of the following:
1)"Oh here, one bite won't hurt you!"
2)"But you can't DEPRIVE yourself!"
3)"You have to treat yourself every once in awhile!"
4)"Good diets include no forbidden foods!"
5)"You can have whatever you want, just have a little of it"
I love the last one...Would they tell an alcoholic to have just one beer? I can see it now; "Oh come on, lighten up, don't be a party-pooper! One beer won't hurt you..."
Trouble is, you don't get to be my weight without having some serious issues with certain food. Mostly Junk Food. Everytime I go on a diet and cut out the junk, I have some butthead offering me pie. Yeah sure, I could just turn it down right? Well the look, the smell of the pie, and my mouth watering, kind of gets in the way of willpower.
SO, back on the horse with me. I am cutting out the junk (candy, pastry, pie, cake, chips and the like) and to Hell with PWDGI! It's the only way...

Amen, Deb. Amen. My husband, bless his heart, is one of those people. I have to give him credit--he *wants* to get it. But he's the type of person whose always had a super high metabolism, the tall stick-thin guy, said he'd always been able to eat like a horse and never gained an ounce. In fact, he had to *work* just to *gain* weight. So now he's older, and his body is slowing down, and now he's got a large gut that he hates. He just doesn't get it that those potato chips he eats for lunch every day are what's doing it (there are tons of other "little things" like those chips, but you get the idea). So he tends to tell me the same things on your list "one little cookie is NOT going to hurt you". He's my biggest supporter (outside of you guys), but also my biggest sabeteur. Bless the man's heart, he comes home with chocolate because he saw me drooling over some stupid TV add. LOL
