Perhaps for me it is more about changing the routine. Using the cross trainer, then the treadmill. Or if I am using the treadmill, change the incline or the pace. Jog for ten minutes. The best yet: use 3-5 lbs hand weights while on the treadmill. Doing reps with the weights while walking took my workout to a whole new level. Burning more calories in the same time frame, and really got me reved up. Little changes can make a huge amount of difference. Your body does adjust to your workouts, and does not get the same benefit over time. Give your body a bit of change, and it will react. If walking, pick routes that have hills, or as you suggest, jog a block the go back to walking. Do different things, jump rope, rollerblade, bike or hike. I try to use all the different cardio equipment at the gym - they tend to work different body parts to slight degrees.
One of my favorite exercises: BOXING! Hitting the boxing bag is not only a good workout, but is a great way to relieve stress and tension. I have a high stress job, and at the end of the day, I find my sanity in working out. The boxing bag has probably kept me more sane than any drug or therapist ever could! 20 minutes on the bag and I am a new woman! I highly recommend it, and it is inexpensive. Most bags are under $50, easy to hang, and boxing gloves are about $30. The equipment lasts forever.
