Need Advice--HATE exercising

Do any of you have any advice for a girl who HATES exercise? I have never in my life been able to stick with any sort of exercise program. I start it, then by one week, I stop. I bought a new exercise DVD-- Pilates Crunch. You can target your areas you want to work and can do a workout in 10 minutes. I thought that it might help if I don't have to spend a lot of time. I tried it tonight and it nearly killed me. My stomach is already sore and its only been about 30 mins since I did it. I got that video because I heard that you get results fast. I would like to know what you guys do to keep on a program, and what videos or exercises you do to get results fast.

Are you a member of a gym? I joined my gym just because they offer water aerobics and aqua kickboxing classes. I'll tell ya, those classes are great!! They are fun and you get a great workout. It's never boring, because you are in there with a bunch of other women. Sometimes we get to laughing so hard that we can barely do our workout. I think I would get real bored working out to a video. It motivates me more to be with other people and challenge myself to work harder than the woman next to me. Hope that helps!! Good luck!

There are a lot of good responses posted here. After you figure out exactly what type of exercise program is best for you, throw in a few outdoor activities. I have problems with my legs and generally, I just can't imagine walking any long distance. But when I went to the zoo and Florida (theme parks for four days), I was so busy looking at everything that I didn't even realize how much walking I had done until I got home. Window shopping...leave the credit card and cash at home of course....smile. You don't want to go broke with this exercise. And if you have a dog...take the dog to the park so the DOG can get some exercise.

I know how that is, I personally bought a belly dance for beginner’s DVD and the first time I tried it I almost fainted and was sore for like days. That really made me never want to never ever do it again, but then I decided I would rather suffer and get in shape than be content and get pudgy. So it's all about just bearing the pain and motivating yourself, which can be REALLY hard to do. While I think exercise is a pain it is really unfortunate necessity.

The best exercise is the one that you will do! Think outside of the box. You don't have to be in a gym or closed up in a room with a workout DVD (unless you like that sort of thing). For me, I like to be outside so my workouts consist of walking, hiking and going for long bike rides. I also just generally try to be as active as I can each day. On my lunch breaks I go for 1/2 hour walks. I work in the yard or I play with my son at night instead of vegging out in front of the tv. I like winter sports, so in colder months we go sledding, snow-boarding, snow-shoeing, etc. I also walk my dog almost every night. I find all of these activities very enjoyable so I am usually so absorbed I don't even realize I'm exercising! Good luck.

Maybe, if you just did the exercises at the beginning for just 10 to 15 minutes, rest about 30 minutes, then do another 10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes, it's best to start slowly then increase your timing by 5 minutes. That might help combatting soreness after the workout. I've done it like that and it worked for me. I don't particularly HATE exercising, it's just that I cannot get motivated or I will do housework instead because it's in front of me and, NO, I don't want to go anywhere else to do my exercises. I tried that at the Y, but their exercises were too much for my bad back. Too fast!
Anyway, I'll keep trying to return to my exercises, eventually!!!

Hi Gracenpeece,
Exercise is the only way to get fit. That body needs to move around if you want to get strong and tone. I do a lot of pilates, it strengtens your core (your center) and helps with flexibility and posture (both very important). I also like to use dumbells and walk on the treadmill.

It's easy, get a pilates dvd and lay on the floor in the comfort of your own home and getting moving with it. After a while when you see results, that will be your motivation (not to mention that you'll really get in tune with your inner strength). Also with the dumbell and/or treadmill, if you could get that stuff for your house, then turn on a really good tv show and get cracking.

Hope this helps, let me know how you make out.
