Awwwwwwwwww, I feel so bad for you. I know its hard when you don't get something you've wanted so badly. Maybe you should ask your boss why you didn't get the job. I think you have a right to know. Ask nicely though, don't accuse or be defensive. Maybe the new person has skills that you don't, or maybe your boss didn't know you wanted it. Whatever, just let them know that if the new person doesn't work out, you're still interested. And the food is not going to replace the things that are missing in your life. Its habit to reach for food--you have to break the habit. Ask yourself before each thing you eat, Why am I going to get food? If the answer is not "because I'm hungry" then don't do it. Once, I tried the weigh down diet--It is a Christian diet that basically is you don't eat unless you are hungry and when you feel the urge to eat when you aren't hungry, you reach for the Bible instead and read until the urge passes. Honey, I read the Bible through in about a month. I know how you feel. I haven't always got everything I wanted from work either, and most of the time I felt like I didn't b/c I was fat. But when I would ask, I would realize that the other person had something I didn't. So I started taking classes to get the skills the other person did so I wouldn't get passed up again. You will be okay, and the hurt will pass in time and eating won't help it. I always think things happen for a reason. Maybe a better opportunity will come, or maybe that is not the right place for you. Just pray on it. God always answers prayers, just not always the way we want them to be answered. I'll pray for you too. Know that you have friends here.
Sorry to hear about what's happening, Mary. Could you talk w/the dept you thought was hiring you and ask them what the deal was? Maybe you could find out why they had you train for a job they weren't going to give you.....there's no use in supposing why they didn't hire you. I think it would be best to go straight to the source and find out.
While there, you might want to make sure that what you believe is the case when the new management comes on is truly the case. Get things spelled out for you, hopefully in writing. Sounds like you need to protect yourself there or you'll be stepped on.
It might help you to get out a bit more and try to work out your frustrations w/some exercise. You know the eating will keep you from your goals, so getting in a walk or enjoying a change of scenery will help you soooo much. It will also get you to your goal weight faster and help you build up your endurance for Ireland.
Again, I'm so sorry for your disappointments....but you know what you need to do to avoid the emotional eating. I'm guilty of it, too (just last night, as a matter of fact), we all are. But I think the sense of victory you'll feel by resisting the urge will be much more satisfying!

Hang in there, and don't give up.
