Low-fat pasta sauce?

Does anybody know if there IS such a thing?? The grocery store I visit carries a low-carb, but it's not low fat. I did SO good today, eating wise, but I had just ate 500 calories (and 20 grams of fat!) in just under a 1/2 cup of Prego pasta sauce (come on, who in the world puts *only* 2 Tbsp on their pasta?!? lol). It's more than the two slices of garlic toast I had with it. I would've kept my calories under 1800 today if it weren't for that. Ugh.

Wow, that's a lot of calories for a pasta sauce...did you get one with meat added or something? There are a lot of the Ragu/Prego brands that have around 60-110 calories per 1/2 C serving. I really like the Ragu Sweet Italian Sausage and Cheese sauce, and it has, if I remember correctly, approx 110 calories per serving. I even found a Ragu white "creamy" sauce that was Parmesan and Mozzarella that had only 60 calories per 1/4 cup, so that would be 120 for 1/2 C. Newman's Own also has a sauce that has only about 60 calories a serving. I would definitely just read the nutrition labels, and you should be able to find one without any problem. If you want to make your own that's really healthy, I can send you my recipe that my boyfriend and I love, and you can add all kinds of stuff to the basic sauce to make it really good. Just let me know, and I'll get it sent to you!

Staci, thanks a bunch for the info. It was Prego Traditional, and I actually found out because I was adding it to my journal at Fitday.com. So I looked at the jar, to check, and sure enough. I did put Jean Dean reduced fat sausage in it, so I know that added some fat and calories, but I didn't actually eat the meat, just the sauce.

I have to admit though that I didn't think to check the labels. Just figured they were all the same. Duh me. Will definitely do that next week, cause we LOVE speghetti night around here. I was seriously bummed thinking I was gonna have to give it up or something. lol

Okay, wow, what an eye opener. Just went to the Newman's Own website and had a look...even the five cheese version is only 90 calories and 3g fat for a 1/2 cup. I'm definitely switching! Thanks so much again for the info! I can't believe I didn't think to check the stupid labels. lol

LOL! No problem. If you like the taste for sausage in your sauce, you would probably really like the Ragu Sweet Italian Sausage and Cheese sauce...to me it tastes a lot like the homemade lasagna sauce I used to make with full fat sausage...I even substitute it in my lasagnas now, instead of the homemade stuff, and I'm picky! If you are wanting an "Alfredo" like sauce, you should definitely check out the Ragu white sauces, too, that Parmesan and Mozzarella one is really good, but be careful on those, because a couple have over 100 calories per 1/4 C. Let me know if the Newman's Own 5 cheese one is any good...that sounds delicious!
