HI everyone.

I just started my program of healthy eating and re-exercising after battling an malfunctioning thyroid for 6 months, I have gained over 80 pounds very quickly and slept most of the time. I need to take a day off to let my body rest but I know my weakness... If i miss one day at first I may fall back to my old pattern of lazing around and feeling depressed. I don't want to let it happen. I know to listen to my body to avoid injury. I am looking here for a little help to keep me going. Some advice, some experiences...

Anyone????? Before I mess up again..Help

Hi! I have been battling with health problems over the past year, too. I have hypothyroidism, have had surgery for cancer, I have diabetes, and high blood pressure. I know things can get tough sometimes. I never realized how crucial your thyroid is to your health until I had problems. My favorite thing to do was sleep and lay around. It takes a lot out of you. When I was recovering from surgery, my nurse gave me good advice. She said to just listen to your body. She said to start out walking around the block, or walk around the mall if you live close to one. You don't have to go fast. Any exercise is better than none at all. I was having problems getting motivated and my friend and I joined a gym and started going to the pool for the arthritis program. It's mostly older people, but they start out slow and work their way into exercises that strengthen your legs, arms, and back. The water classes are great! I started feeling better after I went to a few classes, and now I am in the aqua aerobics and kickboxing classes. It's really fun and being in the water helps your joints and muscles. It's very low impact. I wish you luck with this, and please keep me posted on your progress!

I did it!!

Thank you so much..

You are the only reply I received and when I got tempted or felt like I was letting myself down, I thought of your email and said to myself I cannot let her down....

Thank you for your much needed support. I myself have suffered through, cancer depression, thyroid disorders, heart problems, and the battle of the bulge..If you ever want to talk please email me. I will be there for you...From the heart. Claudette

You are a very kind person. If you had not replied.....I'd probably be eating bacon and eggs and home fries right now and hating myself.

Honestly hon there is no magic thing. I hated HATED to exercise. I was the epitome of the couch potato, no energy and a simple walk around the block left me exhausted and winded. Now I exercise everyday and I have TONS of energy. IN fact, if I *don't* exercise my energy goes down. And that's seriously not meant to sound like bragging (though I'm sure it does)...just meant to be an incentive for you. There's no way around it, sweetie. You have to make yourself do it. It's okay to take a day or two if you're really sore. You definitely don't want to hurt yourself seriously (I actually put one of the joints in my collarbone out of whack because I got a little too gung-ho with modified push-ups when I first started out). But you need to make yourself get back to it. And the more you do it, the stronger you'll get, the easier it gets, the better you feel, etc, etc, etc. Honestly. Keep at it, hon. You *will* see a difference after a while. And it doesn't have to be a huge amount of exercise. Start small, do only what you can, and work your way up. Push yourself, but don't *kill* yourself, you know?
