Im back...again. This time for good! I have been on my low-cal diet for 10 days now and haven't cheated once! I have a question though. Do you think it is ok to have things like chips or candy bars occasionally, if I still stay within my calorie limit? Im not talking every day, but maybe 1 or 2 times a week. Right now I am eating nothing but healthy things like yogurt, cottage cheese, fat-free pudding, sugar-free jello, granola bars, etc...but im craving candy bar! I lost 8 pounds my first week though, and Im afraid of stalling my weight loss. Any ideas?

If you want to have long term success with your weight loss, a little bit of "cheating" is healthy. If you give up everything you love about food all at once, you're bound to fall off the wagon...and the weight comes back on much faster then it came off. I have been on Weight Watchers for a little over a year, and have lost almost 70lbs. I keep it off by choosing one day to indulge in things I wouldn't necessarily do. I also don't kick myself if I cheat a little. I simply count whatever calories/fat that I have into my daily allowance. If you're looking for short term weight loss, then depriving yourself is key. But, if you want to keep it off, be healthy about. I found that if I pinpointed my trigger foods, then I could find healthier substitutes. Like lower fat or lower calorie alternatives to the foods I like the most. There are so many options nowadays that it makes keeping the weight off a little easier.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

I have a small bag of Hershey Kisses in the freezer for when I need a candy/chocolate fix. They key is to only grab two or three and savour every last bite. Because they are frozen, they last a lot longer!

Also, if you don't like Hershey Kisses... maybe get a few of the small miniture candy bars... it's better to have one of those than the full sized... and it will still give you your "fix" without making you feel like you ruined your day.

You can't cut out those sweets all together or you'll never stick to your new eating structure. The hard part =) is limiting them to only a few times each week.

Also available are the Hershey's sugar free bite sized chocolates...the back reads lacitiol which is what I think it is sweetened with. But the draw back (or not) is that if you eat too many it can cause you to have fast and many BM's.

In any case I agree and think that having a bite sized candy will not hurt you, sugar free or not...the problem lays with stopping there. And I do like the idea about freezing the candy because it does last a long time....that is one that I am going to try.

I think once a week is good but more than that and you might be allowing yourself to slip back into old habits.

Thanks to everyone who responded, those are great ideas! I was just so worried once I get one taste, I will want more...but I am starting to get to the point where im just pissed off that I cant have what I really want. I havent cheated yet, but have gotten really close. I think tommorrow I might get 1 chocolate chip cookie, its been 2 weeks and the only thing with chocolate in it ive had is fat-free pudding, im craving it badly!
