so discouraged !! (m)

I'm so very discouraged right now.. I started out at 321 lbs about a month ago.. I weighed Sunday morning (5-15-05) and weighed in at 314. I've been sticking to my dieting and excercises every day with the exception of one slice of cake. Anyways, I am supposed to weigh on Fridays, but out of habit I weighed today and was 321 again?? how is this possible? I almost cried. I have been so close all day to just giving in and eating whatever I want.. I just don't know what is going on. I drink atleast 80 oz of water a day. For breakfast I have either a low carb shake or a low carb breakfast bar. For lunch I either have a salad with low carb dressing or a healthy choice meal, and for dinner I eat what I cook for the family, but cut my portion way down. I have 2 snacks a day, which is usually either 1/2 cup of low carb icecream or a sweet freedom low carb icecream bar. I do a 30 min walking tape every day mon-fri, usually around 12:30 p.m. I don't know what else to do.. any advice would be greatly appreciated..thanks for listening..

I think for your size you are not eating enough. Your body will hold on as tight as it can when it thinks it is starving. Some one here posted a link to calculate how many calories for your weight to survive. I don't remember who but I think it is the message about Fat. Good luck :-)Stephanie 280/255/223 for now

The message title is "How much fat" check it out

No..I haven't been tracking on fitday.com. I did start writing down what I eat each day about 4 days ago..but I mainly keep up with the amount of carbs I consume. How do I know what amount of calories I need to take in each day to continue a healthy weight loss? thanks for any help..oh btw..I weighed again this morning and I went down to 318..weird huh.

Hi, Lynn...

I'm so sorry that you've been feeling discouraged lately...the girls gave you some good advice, and may I be so inclined to add one more piece, if I may ;)

a hug for you.

keep persevering, the choicesyou wrote about show you have been successful.
I agree the scale is rotten but I still weigh myself at least once a week too. It is good to have another way to measure your changes other than the scale so like the other said, a measuring tape or a certain pair of pants can be your gauge also.

I personally hate measuring tapes because the numbers are too big. I have an inner tube waist (basically no waist), so I use a piece of string and a marker. And just mark when it gets smaller so I can see it change. maybe this could help for when the scale is being stubborn??

Lynn - sorry my response is late. I don't have an answer to this whole fluctuation in weightloss but maybe a thought - I notice that you're eating a lot of low carb stuff - your stall or flucuation can be due to the malatol in the things you're eating? Having come from being a total Atkins person - that ingredient is in a lot of sweet low carb products (choc.bars, ice cream, cookies) that are considered low carb. I don't know exactly what it does (i think it's a sweetner) but it seems to cause a lot of problems in people trying to lose. So maybe cut out those things and switch to a different brand or an alternative snack? Make sure you read the labels.

Just a thought - and good luck to you on your continuted journey!!!!

Hi Kerry . :) .. the sweet stuff that I eat is Blue Bunny - Carb Freedom/Sweet Freedom..they are sweetened with Splenda. I checked the boxes just to make sure and none of them have that stuff in them.. thanks for telling me about this though..I will be looking out for it on any items before I purchase them..
