Hi.. I decided to use fitday.com today and track everything that I ate, so that I could see exactly how many calories, etc, that I'm eating each day.. here's my totals for the day... I had 60 oz of water and 2 glasses of tea around 12 oz each.

My food totals for the day are

Calories : 1250

Fat Grams: 76

Carbohydrates: 80

Protein: 53

Is this not enough? please help..thanks a bunch..

I have a link on the "health" page of my blog for a calorie calculator. I type in my ideal weight and eat that amount, but you can also type in your current weight and subtract 500 - 1000 calories.

Hi Lynn! I looked at what you are eating, and you seem to be eating WAAY too much fat and not nearly enough healthy carbs and/or proteins. 76 grams of fat when you are only eating 1250 calories is 55% of your total calories for the day! That's pretty much double the recommended amount. Even if you are trying to do low carb, you still need to get at least 25-30 grams of fiber a day from fruits/veggies/whole grains, because the fiber will help keep you full and also help keep you "regular" ;). I think that the healthy recommended limits for fat/carb/protein ratio is 20-30% fat/40-60% healthy carbs/20-30% protein. Maybe you aren't losing because your body is lacking a lot of essential nutrients, and, like a few people have said, you may be going into "starvation" mode. I would try to up your fruit/veggie and lean protein intake to make your diet plan more well balance. JMHO.

Hi.. I may can add more veggies, but fruits have to many natural sugars which I can't have.. I am diabetic. I need to figure out what kinds of foods have little fat and more calories I guess.. any suggestions?

"For instance: I am currently at 257 lbs. I want to be at 239 lbs by the 25th of June. I'm 5'7". According to this data, I need to be in the 1800 - 1900 calorie range. However, that is a 3 lb. loss per week between now and then and doesn't take into consideration exercise. This is for diet only."

That sounds about right... So if you're doing a moderate amount of exercise (for me, that means burning about 400 - 600 calories a day) than you'd want to be taking in 2200 - 2500 calories...

Just wondering, how is the Fitday software? I use just the web version. With the caloric needs calculator, I found that plugging in my goal weight for caloric needs gave me about the same as plugging in my current weight/activity level and subtracting 1000 calories a day (enough for a 2 pound / week loss). This means that I eat around 2400 calories on days that I work out (which is most days) and try for 2000 or so on my inactive days. So far, it's worked very well for me, at the beginning of the week I'd lost a total of 13 pounds (over 2 months), and since I'd been sick, in the hospital and sort of slacking/snacking for a few weeks before, this week seems to be going great again - I think I might be down another 5 pounds by Monday... We'll see! I'm just starting out, so my loss isn't going to be a regular 1-2 pounds a week yet, though I expect I'll get there eventually. Right now I'm weighing once a week (sometimes once mid-week as well, if I'm too tempted) but once the loss evens out and slows down to a regular pace, I think I'll try for every other week.

Anyhoo, thanks for the info. Not sure about diabetic foods, wish I could help you out there. Have you thought about talking to a dietician? If your condition is serious enough that you can't eat natural fruit sugar, you may want to try talking to a professional - your doctor or a nutritionalist of some kind - to get some suggestions.

Well, I think the software is worth the money personally.
