Ready To Toss The Scale, Or Myself....

.....out the window!!!! I finally got on the scale again today after not having used it for a few weeks now. I don't know if you remember but I wasn't losing a thing. Anyway, this coming Tuesday will be 6 weeks I've been on plan and STILL the scale hasn't budged!!! Not even one loudy pound. I just don't know what else to do. At first I was thinking I wasn't eating enough (at the time I was taking in around 1200 cals a day). So I upped my cals to around 1600-1800. But that still did no good. I have not touched any junk food at all and I am still exercising. I even started lifting weights a week and a half ago.

Seriously, has this ever happened to any of you? Did it ever take any of you this long (or more) before you actually saw even one pound lost? I've never heard this happening to ANYONE! I know people who eat exactly like I do and NOT exercise and even they have a loss on the scale each week. This is exactly what happened to me a year ago when I was going to Curves 5 days a week and doing a low carb diet. I did both at the same time for 4 months and only lost one half a pound during that entire time. So, I gave up. I figured why bother.

I don't want to give up though. But at the same time I DO want to see the scale move. I told you all how my clothes fit better and I look slimmer than I used to but there hasn't been any additional progress in those areas either for at least 2 weeks now. I really hate this and don't know what else to do or try. I just don't get it. I'm all out of ideas.

Just wanted to add that about a week ago I got myself a pedometer and have been wearing it every day from the time I get up until I go to bed. I have been averaging over 10,000 steps a day. And that's without my daily exercise. So, I know exercise is not the problem. I'm obviously getting enough.

No offense to your doc, but he doesn't know what he's talking about. 1200 calories is the absolutely MINIMUM that a woman who is at her IDEAL WEIGHT needs to eat just to sustain basic life functions. If you are only eating 1200 calories a day, YOU ARE STARVING YOURSELF!!! Seriously.

I am 5'8" and my starting weight was 302 pounds. I workout between 30 and 45 minutes of cardio, 5 days a week, plus MAYBE one or two days of strength training. All in all, I may burn an average of 400-600 calories a day through exercise. I'm currently eating 2400 calories a day when I work out, and trying for 2000 on my days off. So far, I've lost 17 pounds in less than 2 months! I would seriously consider upping your calories.

Well I went to the web site Jeanrae4 suggested www.puritanspride.com. Maybe you can take a caynne type suppliment? I am certianly going to look into it...and start drinking Green Tea which I have always been told it is very healthy for a person....the site also stated that Green Tea was good for losing weight...

I too have that problem the scale won't move...but then neither will I.... :0) in any case I know what I need to do...

So go visit the purtians pride site and see if you can get some supplement help there.

In any case I will pray for a weight loss for you.

Hello there, I sure sympathize with you and really admire you for not wanting to give up. That attitude truly will take you far! As a nurse, I urge you to fax, write or call your former physician explaining the problem and the situation with not being able to see a doctor anytime soon. Ask him/her to order some blood work for you, to be done at your local lab or hospital. This shouldn't be difficult at all. When you get the results you'll be able to see if there is an area lacking. I also urge you not to self-medicate with a thyroid booster until you know if you are hypothyroid or not. Our thyroid glands do not take well to have a thyroid supplement when they don't need it. Self-medicating in the dark could very easily bring on a whole host of other problems. You need a complete endocrine work up. Have you ever checked your blood sugar? Definitely continue with the healthy eating and sane exercising. Yes, muscle weighs more than fat but it is also metabolically more active. Your scale should have moved. I have a girlfriend who lost 1 pound in a year. A blood screen and glucos tolerance test revealed hypothyroid and diabetes. Our systems are balanced in the endocrine (total hormones, including insuling, thyroid adrenaline, etc.), electrolytes, etc. Something is out of balance in your body. Seek help through your former physician and see if you can get the ball rolling. Otherwise set up an appointment in the nearest larger town. Wellness to you! Kristi :o) <><

Thanks. I actually have upped the calories. This is what I have decided to do now and have been doing all this past week (since I first started this thread):

Mon, Tue, Thur and Fri weight training. Wed, Sat and Sun either walking, biking, cardio DVD, or use my glider. For a while there I was doing the DVD, biking, glider or walking EVERY day in addition to my weight training. I have also upped my calories to around 1800. And, I have also started taking a Whey Protein supplement. I am hoping this takes care of the problem. But, only time will tell. Like I said, I refuse to give up. I will find SOMETHING that works sooner or later. LOL!

Actually, I am so accustomed to eating better that the site of junk food doesn't even interest me anymore. We just went to a BBQ today and they had chips, dips, potato salad, brownies, etc. I didn't touch one bit of it. Just had a burger and some salad that was also there. The rest of the day, like for breakfast and lunch, I had my normal healthy foods (bran cereal for breakfast with no fat milk and some fruit and for lunch some tuna with lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat soft tortilla).
