I love eating like this!

Ok, so I'm sitting here eating my lunch, and I look at it and think, wow, this looks really good. LOL. Now, I'm sure a lot of you are probably thinking, "well, I would hope so since it is your lunch", but, it's something a little new for me. When I think about all the unhealthy foods I used to eat, I don't remember a whole lot of times when I looked at that food and thought "this looks really good." I used to look at food and think about how much or little was there; I used to look at food and think "ok, what's my NEXT meal going to be?" Now that I am focusing on calories and nutrition, I am eating a lot more whole foods, fruits, veggies, dairy, and lean meats, and I actually think about my foods more. For lunch I had a whole wheat pita pocket STUFFED with chopped up grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, pepperoncini, and 2% sharp cheddar cheese. I mixed all of this w/ 1 T of Olive Garden Salad dressing, and I had this beautiful pita sandwich. I know it sounds dorky, but it looked like something you would see in a magazine and go...Ohhhh, that looks good! And it tasted FABULOUS. When I was eating it, I savored all of the different flavors, and I wasn't sitting there thinking "what am I going to have later". I am very pleasantly full, and I feel very good for having eaten it. I am so amazed by myself because it seems that I no longer think of food as something to stuff my self (and feelings) with. I think of it as what it is--something that makes my body run and gives me my essential nutrients, and something that is supposed to be enjoyed and savored, not "supersized" and stuffed down my throat.

That's great and I know exactly what you mean. For instance, over the holiday weekend we were at a BBQ and of course they had the normal chips, dips, brownies, cakes and every other kind of junk food you could imagine. Back before I started eating healthy I would have looked at that stuff and said "Ah, who cares about my diet. One day isn't gonna kill me." Then I would have chowed down on all the junk. This time, I didn't even have an urge to eat that crap and I instead had some salad and a burger. And earlier in the day I have my normal good foods to eat for breakfast and lunch before we left for the BBQ.

I am finding that the more good foods I eat the more I crave them! Look forward to them. Even my son has started eating fruits and yogurts for snacks instead of chips and cookies, etc. And he just last night said to me "Mom, I don't even think about eating chips and stuff anymore. Isn't that weird?" LOL!

I know what you all mean, it's been ages since i've been to Mcdonald's and i am not really missing it. Actually i haven't thought about it till you brought this up. Believe me for someone who lived on Mc for 5 years during college, this is big!! Healthy food IS addictive lol!

the effect this WOL has on my children is amazing! My 13 yo now only eats whole wheat bread, and since i won't buy the cupcakes and crap any more, he picks fresh fruit. And they both have started drinking water!! Amazing!! I only wish I would have done this years ago. Now if I could only get my husband to eat a green veggie. Karen

"And I ate a piece of grilled chicken for my evening snack! Not sure what is going on....a little strange....LOL"

...I had to laugh, too, because the same thing has been happening to me. We went to Arby's for dinner last night, and I only had a regular roast beef sandwich while everyone else was getting ones with cheese, curly fries (with cheese), and mozzarella sticks. Instead of eating the fries or mozzarella sticks, I had 2 plums! And, I drank water instead of sweetened tea or soda--which I have done without for over 4 weeks now!
