The outside of my left foot (metatarsal region) is killing me and sometimes slightly swollen. Anyone else have foot trouble? Kristi :o) <><

My feet often hurt first thing in the morning - partly because I have high arches and mostly because I'm overweight :) Usually my instep is the sore part. When my outer foot hurts it's usually because of ill fitting shoes. I also find that two layers of socks when I walk in my sneakers helps too. I forget the term for it but when I walk, I tend to lean toward the outer part of my foot. I notice that older shoes, sneakers, etc. get worn down on the outer sides. I have to be aware of how shoes fit when I buy them and after wearing them for awhile. I get new gym sneakers about twice a year. It may be worth a consult with a podiatrist if it continues to bother you.

It's fire-hot during the day when I'm most active. By the end of the day, the outside of my left foot is swollen and massage makes it worse. Icing it feels good while it's happening but as soon as I get up on it the pain is no better. It's fine at night as long as I don't rub on it with my other foot.

I tend to walk fairly evenly. It's something I've worked on for years. My feet want to roll out but I don't let them. I check how my shoes are wearing to make sure I'm walking evenly. To do this, since my thighs are so large, I end up making sure I'm keeping balance more toward the inside of both feet. Doing this has kept me walking straight and kept my shoes from wearing to one side or the other. I'm going to get bands that support the metatarsals and arches. You slip them on so it's pretty simple.
