I have one I bought through Walker's Warehouse but I seldom use it anymore. It was so discouraging to see how difficult it is for me to get 5000 steps, let alone the 10,000 a day that's recommended.
I don't have a lot of faith in pedometers. I bought an inexpensive one once and I found that it would count steps if I shook it. It also has to rest on your belt line and be able to touch the topmost part of your thigh. That doesn't work for me because of my pouch :) Maybe people have had more luck with better quality ones?
I agree on the pedometer thing. The cheaper ones especially count extra steps. The best one I got was for 21.99 through eDiets.com. It never counted extra steps and was pretty accurate and very lightweight. Unfortunately I washed it and that was the end of it. LOL I just need to buy it again. All the others I have bought in the meantime have been extremely sensative and not accurate at all.
I don't think any pedometer is exactly on, but some are more accurate than others. The point of a pedometer isn't to count every step but to give you an idea of how much movement you are getting. I paid $24.95 from Walker's Warehouse for mine and it's fairly close even though I have a 'pouch' too. I just have to make sure I get it positioned correctly.
I got the Talking Pedometer by Sportline and it works great for me. Don't know how yours works but with mine I actually had to take 10 regulars steps and measure the distance of my normal stride and enter that info into the pedometer. I also had to enter in my weight. So, based on my stride and my weight it gives a more accurate count of calories burned/steps walked etc.
It tells you: How many steps you've walked Distance Walked Calories burned Time walked
It has a clip so you can clip it to the waist of your pants. However, I have many pairs of capri's that have pockets on the sides down midway on the legs and I sometimes clip it there so it doesn't rub on my waist (not that I've had a problem with that) and it still gives me an accurate count.
The thing I also like about this one is that its always on. So, if I stop, it stops. Once I start walking again, it starts counting again. I had one before that would shut off (after so long) if I stopped and then I would always forget to turn the darn thing back on again! With this one I don't have to worry about that at all.
