Just want to introduce myself

Hi everyone! I don't know why I was too proud before to admit that I have this much weight to lose, but I can now. I was at a friend's place on vacation last week, stepped on the scale, and when the numbers flashed I cried for the next 10 minutes. I'm 5'5" 285lbs.

I came to the realization that when I graduated college a month ago, I had gained 60lbs over those 4yrs! It came on so slowly that I never really saw it coming...only went up from an 18 to a 22, so I figured maybe it was only 20lbs. My senior year of highschool I had been on Weight Watchers, lost 30 or so lbs and kept it off for about 2yrs. Now I'm back to my pre-WW weight, plus 35lbs. *sigh*

So here I am, starting the South Beach Diet on Monday. I would ultimately like to lost 135lbs, but know that because I have a very large bone structure I may get to 160lbs and be very happy with how I look. We'll see when the time comes....

Thanks in advance for all the support you all can give me; it's much appreciated!!! I look forward to getting to know you all!

~Maureen

PS: Quick Question- Is it true that because I will be losing weight slowly and I'm only just turning 22 that most of my skin will go back to where it should be? I'm not sure about this, because I've been very overweight almost all my life.... Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to the board. I just turned 23 and have also been overweight for most of my life... I am very much hoping that my skin will look normal when I am down to my goal weight. I think since we are still pretty young the elasticity in our skin will still be in good shape to help normalize our skin. Stretch marks though are a whole different story. I'm looking into ways to decrease the appearance of those that I have had since I was like 12!

When I was 29 I lost 100 pounds and my skin went back to normal and my stomach went flat. I think because I was young and got a lot of exercise. Good luck and be happy you have age on your side. :-) Stephanie 280/255/223 for now

Skin your age has much more elasticity still, so you should go back to normal. Kristi :o) <><
