It just sounds disgusting. Call me fat, call me overweight, call me a whale - anything but obese. Just a random thought/vent.

I do, too. It's such an ugly word. I know I'm fat, but do you have to make me sound like I'm completely disgusting?

I don't mind the word obese. What I DO mind is that when people refer to me it's by saying "she's obese" not "she is a PERSON who is obese." It's a medical term, so I'm fine with it...but it's as though people don't realize that there is a person attached to the condition (which is the case with sooooooo many conditions.)

I hate the word "fat" more than I hate the word "obese." It's too much like taunting from the kids on the playground. I prefer the word "heavy." It's right to the point. I am heavy, the scale says so. I dislike "chubby" something awful. And "chunky" ought to be outlawed for everything but icecream. Anything else just seems mean - to me, that is. Kristi :o) <><

I hate obese. I really hate “Morbidly Obese.” I mean by the way people act; ANY sign of being obese is morbid, so why differentiate? I’ll be the first to say I am fat, that way when someone thinks they are getting one over on me by calling me fat, then I just reply” tell me something I don’t already know!” Obese just sounds as if someone is calling me lazy. But to be honest, I really don’t like being called much of anything.

I like "fat" better than obese. Obese sounds like a freak of nature to me. Around here, lots of people say "hefty" which I also hate--sounds like a trash bag. Also hate portly, chunky, chubby. I'm like aydynsmommy--I hate to be called anything.

What I hate the most is when someone uses the phrase "pleasantly plump." I have an aunt that will use that phrase as often as she can. I would rather be called anything else than that!

I also hate the word obese...your right,it just sounds so wrong.Who knows, maybe thats why they term it that in the medical field.Make everyone who's "obese" feel horrible about the word and maybe we'll change our ways.

And to whomever said morbidly obese is even worse...I agree.Obese is unhealthy enough, and I would think by now most if not all people would know that...so why add the morbidly to it.

Write my weight down and be done with it.I highly doubt a Doctor can't tell by my weight and height if I'm obese or not,I don't need a word in my charts to tell them and myself what everyone else already knows. O.o Duh!

I also hate the word obese. Everytime I hear that word it sounds like some one is saying "a beast". My doctor sent a referral form to my home to see a nutrionist and it listed "female with hypertention, hyperlipidemia and obisitiy." That letter bothered me for quite some time. I prefer the word rubenesque after the painter whose theme was painting full-figured women. Zaftig is even a good word, it's often referred to the opera divas.

I thought I was the only one who felt that way about that word. It's good to know I am not alone.

I completely agree with everyone on how ugly the word obese is (I hate it, too) but I use it to describe my weight/body because sometimes the truth is uncomfortable and we have to deal with that, too. I look forward to the day when it doesn't apply anymore. LK
