Eating foods containing high amounts of sodium will cause the ankles to swell. Watch your nutrition labels for sodium content in the foods you eat. The hot, humid weather always makes my ankles swell if I've been sitting too long in one spot. Drink plenty of water during the hot days, and every day to hydrate yourself.

Well, I agree with the high sodium intake and it contributing to the swelling problem. Another thing is it could be sitting for too long. If you sit for extended periods of time, say at a desk, that contributes to swelling your lower legs and ankles. I have the same problem. I have a small stool under my desk to raise my feet a little off the floor, and I also try and get up and walk around at least once an hour. This will increase circulation in your legs and decrease swelling. As we get older, our circulation starts to decrease and every little bit we do to offset it helps. :)
