Newbie again...

Ok here is my story... about 4 years ago, I weighed 250 pounds. I found this board, and I lost 52 pounds by counting calories. Then, I got married, and pregnant, and I gained most of it back. At about 245, I decided I needed to do something, and I just couldn't get back on track with counting calories. So I started Atkins. Atkins was great, I lost about 65 pounds. However, when the holidays came around I messed up a lot. For about a month, I struggled to get back on Atkins, but I just kept cheating! LOL. Well, anyway, I've gradually regained about 10 pounds, and I refuse to break 200 again. My oldest ds is 4 years old, and when he couldn't fit into his pants a couple of weeks ago, I decided it was time for me to do something for me and my son. I didn't want to restrict his carbs, plus carb-counting had proven to be too restrictive for me. Actually, what I think happened is that I got into this mindset of self-indulgence. You know, with Atkins, it's "go ahead eat the bacon, have the brisket." LOL. I can't do it anymore, so I'm back to counting calories. This way, I can eat almost whatever I want... at least a little bit of it. And ooooooh how I MISSED grapes and pineapple!! (drool)

So..... (yeah I'm a little long-winded, lol) now I'm 26 years old, 5'4", and I weigh about 190 pounds. I'm also a FT student, and not terribly active besides housework. So exercise has been a challenge that I've only been able to conquer sporadically. I need to work on that, I really have no excuse. Billy Blanks is always available! My goal is to be around 135 by New Year's. That means I have to lose about 2 pounds per week. I know it's gonna be tough, but if I don't make it, I wanna come as close as possible. I've always found that striving for more gets me further, like I psych myself out. :P

I hope to find some encouragement here and tips, of course. I know I don't have 100 pounds or more to go anymore, but having started here, this is where I feel I belong. Hope y'all don't mind havin me!

Have either of you talked to your child's doctor about cutting your child's calories? A lot of problems can start with putting your child on any kind of diet. Children need all that energy. Cut out the junk but be very careful about cutting calories.

My son is only 4 years old, and I'm not "counting" his calories. But I don't need the doctor to tell me that he's overweight and that junk is junk. I haven't put him on a "diet", I've just changed the way we eat. I can't control what he eats at his Ammaw's or at daycare, but when he's at home, we eat healthy. There aren't snack cakes or sugary drinks around anymore. So, in short, the calorie counting is for me, but now there are better choices for him.
