I have seen alot of questions lately about pills and supplements that are supposed to help us lose weight and this concerns me.

Its so funny that you posted this, because I was JUST thinking the exact same thing, Shawna!
Arent these kind of "quick fixes" what got alot of us into this position to begin with? They are for me.
And you're right, permanent loss comes w/a change in lifestyle and eating habits.
Thanks for posting this!

Most ads for diet pills & supplements have an disclaimer somewhere on the ad that says it must be used in conjunction with diet & exercise.
OPRAH magazine has an article on new diet supplements that are being developed from a plant found in Africa. Apparently this thing works well with no side effects, but scientists are still trying to figure out why it works. Looks really promising for obesity treatment.

Well, I guess I should respond since I am the one who posted the question in the first place. I was not asking about a miracle pill that will make me to lose a ton of weight in a short amount of time. If you re-read my post you will see that. I was simply asking if anyone knew of an appetite suppressant that wasn't bad for you. I understand that the words "appetite suppressant" have a bad connotation to them, and that is why I added the disclaimer "that aren't bad for you". There are many types of appetite suppressants, including natural ones- such as green tea, which I found out. I am in no way planning on taking something for the rest of my life or getting addicted to Dexatrim (or any other "miracle" pill!).
At some point, I DO plan on getting a grip on my hunger pangs, and I DO plan on changing my lifestyle. I'm not deluded to that fact. I was simply asking if there was anything to help me as I get started. You know, nutritionists use the aid of "appetite suppressants" as well. They recommend that you eat a lot of foods containing fiber, or certain types of protein that make you feel full longer, and even use certain natural supplements and shakes to aid in nutrition and suppressing appetite. I don't intend on "relying" on ANY type of supplement for my weight loss.
I am sorry that the post upset anyone. I didn't post it to rock the boat, or to try to advocate for an easy-breezy way to lose weight. I figured that since this was a public message board, some of you might have some good ideas about it. I'm sorry I brought up a topic that "concerns" you- I will simply take my posts and questions elsewhere, where maybe people don't jump to conclusions about the questions I ask.
I don't think Shawna was judging you or criticizing you at all. She has a genuine concern regarding this issue. So do I, for that matter.
There is a big difference between an appetite suppressant in a pill form or eating a lot of fibrous veggies to fill you up.....the veggies give you some nutritive value, the pill does not. Eating more protein and fruits and veggies teaches you HOW to fill up and listen to your body....a pill doesn't.
That said, if you feel you need something like that to get you going.....by all means, give it a try. I would just give it a try in conjunction w/the other things you yourself mentioned (veggies, protein, etc...)
No one is wanting you to leave this board. This IS a public message board, and it is for women like us who have struggled and need to lose weight. We are here for you. HOwever, you take peoples opinions and try to form your own.
I hope you reconsider leaving. No one was attacking you, no one was criticizing you. I think if you re-read the OP, you will see that.

for me it was worth it cuz mentally most likely it gave me that edge to lower my calories and become more aware of what and how much I ate.. was it the pill or my mind. I read somewhere that metamusil will do the same thing..I still have 4 months supply lmao.. Do I take them everyday no... I just found it helpful just as I will probably turn to the smoking patch..
I watch and look for calorie content in everything I put between my lips.. I was a successful ww long time ago but my downfall was my pregnancies... the first one I started to bleed and had a month of bed rest where I was fed very well.. I gained 80 pounds with him lost 30 when I delivered but 6 months later found myself pregnant again just to gain another 30.. I hovered around 220 then not a great weight but didn't seem all that bad.. Then I had a nervous breakdown when a car fell on my husband and lost almost 40 pounds from lack of eating in a month but that came back real fast once I was better.. then came lyme disease and cfs and well the pounds just came on till I reached my high April of 370.
I am with drs care on 800-1000 calories
Whoa.
I have seen those little disclaimers and I think "well why use the pill to begin with then?"
I havent seen anything from Oprah yet...I would be interested in hearing more about it though.
the recommended dose is 2 pills 1/2 hour before eatting.. hmm im taking maybe 6 pills a week.. How long do i plan on eatting this way.. I cant say can you?? right now it will be 3 months on july 16th.. these were pills that my friend asked her gb surgeon about and he basically talked her out of the surgery for these..
Can you say how long you will eat like this.. Can anyone if we could we'd all would be ideal weight..
Were you ever so heavy you couldnt do your own grocery shopping or even for a simple birthday present? At easter I could not do any of those..
Just as i use fitday to record my food intake.. i keep these in sight to know hey yu can take them if you really think you ned them or just be there for a reminder.. I wont be purchasing anymore thats for sure.
