Well hello everyone!
I used to post on this board about a year ago and loved the support I gained here. My name is Heather, I am 32 and at the biggest weight I have ever been at. I am currently 285 and need to get down to 180 to be at a healthy weight. My minigoal is to lose 30 pounds by the end of the summer. My ultimate goal is to be at 150. Me and my husband Shawn have been married almost one year and we are trying to have a baby. I was just diagnosed as being insulin resistant which explains some of my weight issues. Insulin resistance is where your insulin isn't working correctly in order to use the glucose in your body. It can lead to diabetes, heart disease and cancer to name a few and it is genetic, so there is no cure. It has been a real obstacle in getting pregnant, but I am on glucaphage now and I just started the insulin resistant diet. Anyway, I am glad to be back on board! I hope I can get to know all of you!

This way of eating is so simple I wished I would have known about it sooner. Basically I do what is called a link and balance approach. Anytime I eat a serving of carbs I have to make sure I get a serving of protein. Of course its all healthy and low fat carbs and proteins. I can't have more than two servings of carbs at any one time. Its kinda like a diabetic diet, but the beauty is if I want to splurge every once in awhile I can as long I link and balance. I got this approach from an awesome book called the Insulin Resistant Diet. It was developed by a doctor and a nutritionist from the Mayo Clinic. So will see!
