I'm a newbie here, too... :)

Wow, looks like lots of people have found this board in the last few days!
I am 35 and a high school teacher, happily married for 8 years with no kids (although we want to try soon), a psycho mutt and constantly PMS'ing cockatiel. I have about 130 pounds I want to lose, which would put me at a weight I haven't seen since high school, but still keep me in the zone of a size 12.
I have tried many diets - sometimes it feels like I've tried them all (like I'm sure most of you have). Right now, I am focusing not on limiting what I can eat, because if I do that, it seems like I think only of that food I can't have. I am focusing on portion control, being realistic to myself on what I can eat at one sitting, drinking more water, adding in more fruits & veggies as much as possible, and not eating at night (the hardest part).
I am exercising more and am up to 30 minutes on the treadmill at about a 2.4 mph setting. I also recently read Bob Greene's new book "Total Body Makeover" and I'm going to give that a shot. He divides exercise into three parts (aerobic, stretching, and weight lifting), and gives pointers for beginners. Today, I actually did 25 crunches, which is about 25 more than I've done in the last 20 years. :)
I use hypnosis to help me with weight loss. It really helps my attitude/motivation and cravings. I know it's not for everyone, but hey - neither is any diet. :) I go monthly to see my hypnotist for a "check up", and have CD's that I listen to daily to help keep me on track.
I don't get on the scale more than once a month, and I'm trying to cut down on that. I've found that if I see a lower number, I eat to celebrate - if I see a higher number, I eat to make myself "feel better."
I'm working on the exercise (typically the hardest part for me), the nighttime eating, and trying new veggies. And, from past experience, when I fall off the wagon, I fall off big time - so I'm trying to work on that, too.
This is long enough, so I'll stop for now. I'm looking forward to joining you all! I need support in my weight loss journey...so I try to get it from all over. :)
