Hi! My name is Jennifer I am 26yrs old, 290lbs, diabetic and currently pregnant. (hence the screen name, don't ask me what I am going to do in 7months?) I was on ivillage 100+lbs website a VERY LONG time ago. I was smaller then, but still could have lost 100lbs. Obviously it did not work for me then. I use to be the work out type when I was young (not saying I'm old). I had gestational diabetes with my son who is now 19months old. At my 6week check up I tested a-ok, no diabetes. That was around febuary of last year, in september I went in to the Dr for bad headaches and "bladder" issues. My urine came back with no bladder infection, but with high glucose (sugar) levels. One test later and it was for sure, I am forever diabetic. I was suppose to take pills, and went through a horrible "let me die, I have good life insurance" depression stage. We had planned on having more children, but at that point I knew it wasn't going to happen any time soon. I know the risks of being pregnant with existing diabetes. (Not the same as gestational) Well ladies, I'm pregnant. The minute I realized it, which wasn't quick enough for my comfort. I mean, do any of us actually LOOK FORWARD to our periods? So I didn't realize it was late until a couple WEEKS after it was due. I am on insulin, because it makes my sugar easier to control and because it is safe for pregnant women. I take the same doses I did when I had gestational diabetes. Routine is nice. I have been having problems with my "fasting" sugars (when you first wake up in the morning) and after breakfast. My after lunch & after dinner have been fine. I went to the gym last Thursday and did an hour of cardio (saw a personal trainer to set me up) and OH MY, my blood sugar DROPPED. It was wonderful. I am addicted!!! One addiction I can say is good. It's hard not to work out too hard, which I can't do because I am pregnant. My blood sugar has been wonderful. I just had my 2nd personal trainer meeting and she gave me a few weight training things to do. So my next appt is in 3 weeks to check on my progress. I do not plan on "losing" weight while pregnant, even though I did my last pregnancy just because, but I am working on getting more in shape and then when this kid pops out I can REALLY bust my butt to get in great shape and shed the pounds. I don't really have anyone who has as much weight to lose as myself and has the same point of view on life. I am hoping to find that here, and also find different views & ideas to help me make the most important change in my life. 2nd would be the breast lift after I'm done having kids!! : )

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the board. I am 26 and i have a 17 month old. It is great that you're focused on your health during the pregnancy. And (as you said) you shouldn't be doing this to lose weight cuz the baby's health is more important. I let go during my pregnancy and after delivery i was 70 lbs heavier UGGGG!! Did you check with your doctor to give you an ok on the type of excercise?

May you have a healthy pregnancy

Well congrats on the pregnancy! thats exciting! My name is Jaime and I'm 23. I had my little ones 12 months and 2 weeks apart.. their due dates were actually on the same days, but my first came 2 weeks early.. which was a pleasant suprise.. and of course my girl took her time and made us wait the whole 9 months for her. I never did have any problem with the gestational diabetes.. but the important thing is to just eat right and get some exercise.. and drink lots of water and take your multivitamin! I think I weighed just over 300 when I was 9 months pregnant both times. I was so concerned when I first got pregnant about being overweight but I had absolutely no complications either time, which I am so thankful for. And now that I have my boy and my girl and don't plan on having any more kids for a while (if at all)....so its time to lose my extra weight.. I'm currently at about 260. I actually just stopped nursing my youngest a few weeks ago and I could go for that breast lift too right about now!

Thanks Mary--
I talked to my ob my last pregnancy (same ob) and she talked to me then about working out, I didn't do it last time though. I had my first appt with the ob today but I had to reschedule because she had a delivery today! I've seen two different personal trainers at my gym and they area aware of my pregnancy & my diabetes and they keep me under control with the right exercise and not over doing it!

Thank you Kirsten and Jaime also! I thought if I posted a reply it would only be attached to that persons post. Getting use to the message boards. I guess they are a little different then when I was on long, long time ago.
