Hi,
I desperately need your help!! There are so many of you that are successful in your weight loss!! So inspiring!!......but I can never seem to have results like y'all!!

My big question, How did you do it??
What did you eat, specifically, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner?
What kind of exercise, how often and how long?

I have tried so many diets that I just can't seem to stick on one....do you do a combination or????

I appreciate all your help!! I am Ready to go!!!
Thank you!!
Suzie

I have never been as big as I am now. I have been overweight and lost weight once before. I found that no matter what I ate my weight did not change. (No matter what the Dr or the personal trainers say) I had to do TONS of cardio exercise. I had only about 20lbs extra on me and I was on two soft ball teams and did Jazzercise a minimum of once a day during the week. Some times I did 2 classes a day. One during lunch and one after work. It only took me about 1 1/2 months to lose 20lbs doing that.
It really all depends on the person. I also lost weight during my last pregnancy. I had gestational diabetes (which is now with me for life) and I had to COMPLETELY change the way I ate. I LOVE carbs. All my husband can remember is how I was hungry all the time. I am not a meat eater and although I love veggies-- I can only eat so many. Bread, potates-- those are (were) my staples of life. It is amazing what we consider a "proportion". It sucks! I mean, this morning we went to Shari's (like Denny's)and I had a skillet breakfast. Which comes with potatoes, I had to have them cut that out. WOW. I was amazed how LITTLE meat, veggies & eggs you get. I never noticed. I got a side of pancakes, three dollar size pancakes. I only ate one & 1/2. I probably could have had more because my blood sugar was low after that. I am on insulin though, so cutting down my insulin is the better option. You really have to anaylze everything you eat. Salad, sure it is suppose to be "good for you". Iceberg is basically just water though, it's a waste to eat (I still do because I like it) but eating mixed greens or spinach is a better idea. If you drench it in dressing -- then go ahead and eat a cookie. It's really hard. Like I had a hard time getting the carb/fat thing figured out. I might eat something with 30carbs and no fat and be fine. Then eat something with 10carbs and tons of fat and my blood sugar is high. Because the fat slows down the digestion process. I know I am diabetic and these things are a part of my daily life, but if I had followed some of this BEFORE I was diabetic maybe I wouldn't be today. And I have a friend that is following the diabetic diet and losing weight. She isn't diabetic, but it is a healthy way to live.
Bascially what I am trying to say is.. everyone is different. If it isn't working, try something else. Do not stick with the same thing and think it will work sooner or later. It won't. If it isn't working at all within a couple of months, try something new.

Hi Pregogreengal!!

I definitely have to agree with you on the cardio exercise....I keep putting that off, but after my 1st son I would get up and get to the "Y" for their 5:30 am class so that I would be home for my husband so he could go to work....I did step aerobics, then on days that I didn't go to the "y" I did the treadmill for an hour!!! Where did I get all the energy to do that!! We don't live in the same area now, there is an exercise place, but it is about 1/2 hour away, I just need to do!! Sign up and go!!

I love the part where you said of "if you use too much dressing might as well eat a cookie"....It really makes sense, and I know what I will be thinking when I'm putting on my dressing LOL!! Actually when I really cut out the sugars, I feel sooooo much better. Do you have cereal for breakfast if you find one with low sugar even though the carbs are high? or What do you have for breakfast??

The fat/carb is interesting, I never knew that. So if things are a little more carbs that's o.k. just as long as the sugar and fat are not high?? (Hope I got that right??) O.k. now the big question......Fruit...where does that fit in?

I can really understand that this would be a good common sense way of eating that would be good for long term!! Once I lose this I never want to gain it back!!

Thanks,
Suzie

For me (diabetic) sugar is not my sin -- it is carbs. Sugars are carbs, but carbs are not sugar. So "sugar free" means nothing to me. It might be sugar free and have 25carbs per piece. 15carbs is a snack.
Either way sugar or carb -- if it has high fat then it is harder for your body to digest sugar or carbs. Carbs turn into sugar in your body. Now complex carbs are better because the way your body digest them.
Breakfast has not been easy for me at all. I have not found a cereal I can eat enough of to make me full. Eggs are the best option for me, and meat. I am not a egg or meat person.
Fruit has a high sugar content. Of course it has more vitamins in it than a lot of stuff so it is good for you, just in moderation also. It would be better for you to eat an apple than toast.
Also remember, the closer to all natural the better. Nature loves you!

Hi Suzie ....well I've tried many many diets .....now I'm doing a lifestyle change....I make sure I eat a protien for breakfast ,because it staves off hunger longer ..than a salad or tuna or something like that ..than just a normal supper ...I try to have 2-3 friuts a day ...something in the bery family...I've chaned my portion size ..it was out of controll ..now I eat just a normal size ...I walk atleast 5 out of 7 days ...any where from 15 to 30 minutes ...what ever my lungs will allow ...I don't beat myself up if I can only do 15 minutes or 5 ..because I'm moving and trying ...I'm taking the slow and steady ..I've lost 25 in 4 months ...I've cut way back on carbs ....I'm doing it this time for me .before I wanted to do it because my hussband wanted his size 5 wife back ,well buddy after 30 years ,it anit going to happen ..i have no desire to be that size 5 girl ...I'm now a size 22 woman that is starting to care about herself ..and I'm making a life change for me .because I want to be healthy ...you can't lose for anyone but you ...you need to know you are worth it ...positive self talk will help alot ...take it one day at a time ...and if you fall ,get up and ttake it the next day and always come back here ...I think this board has a huge part in my positive thinking .....Suzie ....you can eat what you want ,just watch portion control and move more ......Dr,Phil has a good book about weight loss ...,we have to start with what we persieve ourselves to be and what we are worth and Suzie I'm here to tell you your worth a million ..no matter what size you are ......take it a day at a time ,if you want to e-mail me ,I'm here ..hope this was a little help ,sorry so long Barb

Hi Barb,
thanks for the great advice....I have been on every diet imagineable, but for some reason I am very relaxed and positive about this attempt to lose weight!! I really think this time it is for ME, and not any other reason that I am going to succeed. I want to be healthy....after I did a body mass test and came out severely obese, I knew that it is time!!

I had my weight loss jump started by being sick last week, (upper respiratory infection, ear ache, good ole summer cold!!) and I don't want to eat much.....so I have lost 7 pounds!! But I don't recommend this method!!

Tomorrow I plan on signing up at our local fitness club! I have been watching my portions and no white stuff and no sugar (except for my tea!!) I have to wean myself!!

Thanks again for the encouragement!!
Suzie

Hello

I hope this can help you. I have lost 49-50 lbs over a 18 month period of time. I personally had decided not to do any formal diets but a more healthy life style approach.
I thought i could do this own and not pay for anyone to tell me what to eat as we all know how to eat more healthier. I have had success doing this way along with a combination of excerise and eating better. I started out slowly by going to Curves i did very well there and got the motivation to continue with excersing on my own. I went back to the gym where i started increasing my cardio and working on the weight machines. I have now advanced to free weights which have been wonderful. I can see the results with doing the free weights. Overall I feel better, energy increase, improved confidence, clothes are smaller and getting looser as I go along.
Its not easy to stay motivated I too have had setbacks along the way. I found just putting behind the bad day and start again the next day. I know you can do it once you set your mind to it.
Good luck on your new adventure. Hope my experience can help you out to decided how you are going to approach things.
