I start so many, many times on healthy eating plans. but always seem to quit after about 2 weeks or a month. Welcome! You're right - it is hard! But, you've done harder things and you can do this, too. This is a great place for support and motivation. LK

You have done so much to be proud of. If you can give up drugs, alcohol, and smoking, I know you can lose weight. Just take it a day at a time like you would anything else.

Good luck. sharla

You've done something for yourself to be proud of already. You were able to quit drugs, alcohol, smoking. All of these are addictive, and food and eating is no different. For people with addictive personalities food sometimes fulfills some sort of need, just like the drugs or alcohol. Did your food intake increase when you took these other coping mechanisms away? You are doing something great for yourself by wanting to lose weight and be healthier. For someone who has already come through as much as you have, I have no doubt that you CAN do this!!! Just give yourself some time.

I will tell you why I think it is so hard and so different from quiting all your other vices. First of all you don't need smokes, drugs and alcohol to keep your body alive. Once the addiction is gone your ok. BUT food on the other hand is necessary to keep alive. You can not live without it. But I am like you. I don't last very long before I start eating things that are not necessary, sweets mostly. I think that sugar is just as addicting as herion. You eat a little and before you know it you are back to 2 bowls of ice cream at a time and a candy bar everytime you leave the grocery store. Anyway that is my vice of choice, sugar. Good luck you can do it. Stephanie
