Hello! I'm new to this board but not IVillage. I used to be on the TTC boards, but have moved over here. A little about me, I have been married for about 1 and a half years to a wonderful man, I'm currently a stay at home wife, and have a little kitty named Huey.
Currently I weigh 250, (not exact weight, I'll do that tonight) and my ultimate goal weight is to get down to 150 or under. I'm only 5 3 so, its a lot of weight on my short body. I have put on about 50 pounds since getting married (ignoring gasps). A lot of the reason for doing this is for the health benefits. My periods stopped in December of last year, so obviously getting PG isn't in the near future for me without some hard work, and that means losing weight. Also, I'm at high risk for Breast Cancer (my mom passed away from it when I was 4) and High Cholestorol and Tryglicerides (SP) So I really want to get into shape, and be able to be there my future family, and husband.
I plan on just starting exercising. I'm shooting for 5 times a week. But, I'm only going to walk. Just for an hour while my DH is in school. And at my own pace. I might also join a step class after awhile. I am just going to try to do portion control, but not eat specific foods just yet. I will eventually incorporate Slim Fast, but probably not till I have gotten portion control down, and have gotten under 200. And I DID try WW's, so don't try to sell me on that. Its just not my thing. I'm just going to try to do this my own way!!!
Anyways, I'm really excited to be in a "support" group. I think its what I really need, to have people that are "bigger" like me, to support. I haven't really had that. So anyways, if you got this far thanks for reading! I look forward to starting this journey on this board!!

Welcome to the board! Everyone here is very understanding and supportive, and it is a great place to be. I know how you feel about wanting to do things your way--I am the exact same way. I lost 50 lbs a couple years ago "my own way", but gained it back by grossly overeating (a new boyfriend who loves food didn't help either). More recently I have lost 40 lbs my way, but gained about 5-10 back becuase I am having a hard time staying on track. We all may struggle a bit and some of us even fall off the wagon, but we are all here to support you and give you a little kick if you need it.

Staci

Hi Tami and welcome to the board.

It sure sounds as if you have a good plan.
