How long to see results?

I know this is a tough question to answer, but how long does it take to start seeing results? I am starting to exercise on the elliptical, around 30 min a day for now, moving up to 1 hour a day in a couple of weeks. Can I expect to start losing in the first couple of weeks? My diet is already not bad, I just need to cut out the snacking at work and I'll be fine. I don't want to have unrealistic expectations, but I just want to get a general idea. How long did it take for you? How much did you lose and how quickly at the beginning (first couple of months)?

I don't know what is "average" but I started out walking with a low fat diet and I dropped around 10lbs within a couple of weeks (mostly water) but I didn't notice a big change in my clothing for a good 5 weeks. Though I felt better physically and emotionally almost immediately. Keep going, it will show up soon. LK

When I started out on WW, I also droppped weight pretty fast and it showed on the scale but it took a while to SEE any results in either clothing or by comments from others.

By just diet alone, i didnt feel any different or look any different, once i started exercising i felt better physically and mentally by day number 3...i just had so much more energy...i was SO exhausted all the time before i started exercising...just sincerly tired. I could tell a difference in body shape after a week, due to pilates but also after one week i notice my watch is a little loser, even my watch was getting tight. The other thing i notice is that i dont crave sweets anymore like i did...for a while i was craving something sweet after every meal...now today my daughter got something sweet and i am not tempted in the least to even try it...i dont know what caused that but i like it.

I guess it depends on what you mean by results! I find I always lose pounds quickly at the beginning of a diet - this time I've lost 20 pounds in about 6 weeks. BUT---I don't see any difference on my body; my clothes aren't any looser, and I don't think I've lost any inches. I've had to come to terms with the fact that 20 pounds on "my" body is not really all that much, and I'm going to have to keep at it for a while before I really see anything. Bummer - I was sure motivated by the fast loss on the scale until I figured that out!

I lost about 20 lbs so far and I see some small results. My rings are a little loser (not that they would fall off or something, just loser). I can also button 2 of my jackets easier than before. But the biggest change of all is more energy. I feel more energetic than I've been in a loooong time.
Of course it feels great seeing a 20 lb drop on the scale. For me it's motivation by itself. And in a short time I am sure I'll start to *see* more results.

good point about the rings! I used to have to use soap if I wanted mine to go on first thing in the morning - now I can get them on easily. Good, at least something measurable! I'm NOT sure that I have much more energy yet - sometimes I think so, and others I'm still as tired and sluggish as before :-)

My opinion on this is that we are much more critical of ourselves than others are.
