Feeling more positive, but need insight

I am just starting to exercise again and already I am feeling better. Day 1 was 20 minutes on my elliptical and I was really struggling. I did about 2.5 miles. Day 2 was also 20 minutes but I didn't have too much trouble and felt much better afterwards. I took Saturday off, and then Day 3 was 30 minutes and 3 miles. I actually felt like I could do more but don't want to push myself too hard.

What do you all think is realistic if I'm just starting out? I was thinking 6 days a week, taking one weekend day off. Ideally I want to get up to an hour a day of cardio until I feel confident enought to join a gym and then start doing some weights. Then I will probably do 45 minutes of cardio and a half hour or so of toning. Who knows when that will be, I'm thinking at least 6 months. Do I need to be doing the weights now as I start or is the cardio the most important? I know the elliptical will tone the butt, legs, and arms (somewhat), but the rest of me is still a challenge. I'm just not sure what the best strategy is moving forward. Any insight would be appreciated!
