Reasonable goal weight?

Hi guys...How did you figure out what your goal weight would be? I am 5'7" and 225 now and would love to be 130 but I am not sure if that is reasonable. I don't want to set myself up to fail but I want to do my best as well. In high school I was about 170 and a size 12. Looking back, I thought I was such a cow then but now I would LOVE to be that weight again. Funny how the perspective changes, huh? Anyway, I want to be thinner than that, but don't know what type of goal I should set...or should I not set a specific one at all?

You could use your ideal body weight as a point of reference.

Right now when you first go into the diet and fitness part of Ivillage it has a place you can go to figure out your ideal weight based on height and body type.

I am 5'7" and have set my goal weight at 175. Although for now my goal is higher than that. It is quite within reason for it to be lower, but not for me.

I am a farmer and I need to be carrying muscle which is heavier to start with. I need to be able to swing a 75 - 100 lb tray of feed up over my chest at least. I need be able to fork manure at the speed of a slow moving tractor. I somehow doubt that I could do these things at a lower weight than 175.

Right now I can't do these things from too much weight, but when all my kids get jobs, I am the farm help.

OMG, you and I have the same goal weight...except you are further in the game. I am 5'8 as well and would be estatic to be at 165 lbs. I don't think I would look healthy at 150.

Well I think 165 would be great, but I'd be even happier to get down to around 155 or 150. You're about an inch taller though, so that makes a difference. I would love to be a size 10...I haven't been a 10 since I was 13 though, so we'll see! We'll be there in no time!

I'm sorry I should have addressed that last post to Shawna...she said something about 165.

But, I think you have a great goal weight/size. I know my mini goal for size is to get down to an 18/20 which will take about 50lbs to lose..WOW. I am a 22/24 now, and have been for 7 years...yuck!

My mini goal since I have started on this board (1st week of August?)is to get under 300 lbs. I have currently lost 6 lbs in about a month...I guess that is so so.....

Hope you have a great night!

>>>I also think we focus too much on the number on the scale and not enough on the way we actually feel.

I am almost 5'10", and my current goal is to get down to 200. I had originally set out for 175, but I realize that I have never been that weight, and it may be very hard for me to maintain. I think my final goal weight is going to be 185 or 190, because I managed to maintain that weight for nearly a year, and only started gaining after some medication I was on. At that weight, I am a size 12-14, depending on how much I work out. I think that if you work out and build muscle mass, you may end up weighing more than you would hope for, but still be a smaller size. For me, what I am going to focus on is my body fat%. If I can get that down to 25% at 200, then I'll probably be happy staying there. If not, then I'll look at losing more weight.

I'm also going for 165 but I'm only 5'5''. According to the charts I should be at 137-155. But that doesn't make any sense to me. I wore a size 8-10 when I was at 165. I guess it depends a lot on how you're "wearing" the weight. Everybody is built differently.
