I was wondering if there is anyone here who has had health problems because of the weight? Especially smokers? I am having huge problems now and although my doc i know is telling me things for my own good, i am scared. i am a smoker who has more than 100 lbs to lose, but i have high cholesterol, high bp, am having a hyserectomy in a week, am having a stress test on friday because of a slightly abnormal ekg i had done today, they are always abnormal, but geez it is one thing or another, i wonder if other people experience health problems like this, i am 39 and eventually i will be diabetic, runs in both sides of my family.
i feel pretty alone right now i have to say
thanks

Hi there :)
Hi , Im Deb .. Im 46 and started out weighing 380 pounds this past spring.. I was to a point where walking was an effort and really didnt walk.. I had a problem going the stairs and well bladder problems sleep apnea and swelling.. Yes, I am a smoker and sorry to say still are that will come later after i weigh less the 200.. This was my decision.. I was and am to afraid to go to the doctor.. My family all have heart problems and assorted nasties.. All I can say now is IM walking almost everywhere.. Dont even think twice about it.. My sleep apnea has improved and the swelling is almost nill except for really hot humid days.. My bladder is 60 percent better also.. Its not an easy battle but seeing and feeling the difference really helps..
I wish you the best of luck with your tests and operation and have a speedy recovery
Hi and welcome to the board. I am also a smoker that finds it very hard to exercise. I get "coughing episodes" and don't recover from colds very well. I was a second hand smoker all my life (my father puffed smoke near my face since I was 1 day old. He's a great man with sub-zero health awareness). But apart from that, I don't have any health troubles (I am 26).
I lost 25 pounds so far without exercising (I don't exercise because I can't find anytime to exercise, not because of the smoking). So if you can't exercise at this point, start with diet alone, then add exercise when you can.
Good luck

Boy that kinda hits me hard.... I have been smoking now for 7 years..... I am 5'7" 338lbs.... I have had gestational diabetes with all 7 of my pregnancys, dr says its inevitable that if I dont stop now and loose the weight I will have full blown diabetes and soon. He also said that my weight is messing with my periods. I have to take pills several times a year to tell my body to even have one. I guess we never really think about all the things that can go whong when we let ourselves go. I mean I didnt really see the bigger picture until now. I will work harder thanks to you. I hope everything works out for you.
