I really need some cheering up....

I'm a depressed mess. Seriously.

So, I've officially been dieting for 28 days. I went to Curves yesterday on day 28 and was weighed and measured.

*Lost 12 Pounds (.5 pounds per day)
*Lost 2 inches (but gained .25 inches in each upper arm)

1) When I was an insane dieter, eating 800 calories a day, and exercising for two hours daily, I lost 20 pounds my first month. I feel like a loser in the weight loss department. Is 3 pounds every 6 days a normal speed? Am I slow?

2) How in the hell did I GAIN .25 inches in my upper arms? If I lose weight, wouldn't I lose inches, too? Why gain them? I lose only 2 inches -- that's sad in itself (why not 4?) -- all over, but gained .25 in each upper arm. How? I can't explain that at all.

There's my diet rant. I'm eating 1500 calories a day, drinking 3 glasses of milk daily, and exercising three times a week for a half an hour at a time at Curves, in case you're wondering what I did (when I go to curves, I push it until it hurts).

THEN -- One more thing. I'm turning 30 tomorrow. September 16th is my birthday. My last night in my twenties is being spent taking a bath, cooking dinner, and cleaning clothes. I spend my last afternoon in my twenties making lesson plans and correcting school work. I've decided, though, to just keep saying I'm 29. I don't know why it's bothering me.

Thanks for letting me rant.

12 pounds in one month is great. That comes out to around 3 pounds a week. 1-2 pounds is a good, healthy weight loss. As for your arms, I am found that inches come off much slower in the arms than any where else. Probably because you don't need to lose as much there. It could be something as simple as the person measuring you didn't pull the tape as tight this time. Or it was on a different place on your arm.

It sound to me like you are doing a great job. Remember, it takes time. This is a life long process. The slower you lose weight the less likely it is to come back. 1500 cals a day is much healthier than 800. you may be losing slower that before, but it is much healthier and more likely to stay off.

happy birthday

You're doing awesome!!!!! I know at this point it doesn't seem like it,but over all,it's a much healthier way to lose the weight. And for the arms?!?!After 28 days, you could have actually built up some muscle there, and THATS A GOOD THING!!!It means even more calories that will be burned up quicker.Keep it up!

You're all so nice... I do feel a little better... :)

It's just SO depressing.... What's 12 pounds when I need to lose 90 more? It's gonna be forever.... But, you would all understand. I'm so glad there is a board for those of us who need to lose this amount of weight. Well, at least I'm in the double digits for weight loss goals instead of triple digits. *sigh*

Oh sweetie I am sorry this has upset you so much. The weight loss is really good actually and the inches makes sense. That is the one thing I don't like about curves, they really don't know anything. That is why I settled on an actual gym. I go to an all womens gym where you can have personal trainer sessions. Three sessions come with your membership. But also they will weigh/measure you at any time and tell you WHY what is happening and how to change it-they are always there for free advice.

The inches in your arms probably mean you have gained muscle mass under the fat. Which is normal and good. When you were a crazy diet person you were probably losing muscle mass. If you body works out and doesn't have food to burn it burns fat.. yes but also muscle mass. That is bad.

So it sounds like you are on a good track. I am sure if you ask most people here they will tell you the pound loss is AWESOME.

I hope this helps and since I've been going to my gym and since I'm diabetic I have really learned ALOT about this stuff so feel free to shoot me a question anytime.

Don't worry about being 30. I personally can't wait!!! I've been waiting to be 30 since I was 20 .. 6 years ago.

Oh, sorry! I didn't know how old you were. I'm sure it was obvious, but after a day of little calories and pop rocks and soda pop kids (high schoolers), my little brain is fried for anything beyond on-the-surface riddles. :)

Still trying to feel better. So, maybe my arms got bigger? That's not too bad, I guess. I am trying to fight the urge to cut my food intake to lose more, faster. *sigh*

I saw a signature someone had that I really liked. It said something along the lines of,"I can't lose 100 lbs.,but I can lose 10 lbs. 10 times".Maybe breaking it up and looking at in smaller amounts wont make it feel so impossible to achieve.
