A friend of mine went to the YMCA with her husband. I was BLOWN away by the cost.

I go an all womens gym and there was a $25 enrollment fee and it is $35+tax each month. Which came with 3 free personal trainer meetings. Personal training is $45 per visit, unless you buy them in bulk and then they get cheaper per the more you buy.

I am curious what other people pay.

Well, I go to Curves. It's $39/month, and you get nutritional and health advice from a manager who is certified in the area. Mine went to San Jose State and majored in athletic medicine. Um, what else.... they offer nutritional classes for $69/6 weeks, but you get protein shake mixs, a food journal, a tote bag, a shirt, and liquid vitamins.

That's more than you wanted to know, huh? :)

I got an alumni membership at the university's student recreation center, which was $350 for a year, plus $60 for an alumni association membership. This was much cheaper than joining any of the other gyms in the area. 24 Hour Fitness is about $30/month, but there are pretty high initiation fees. The nicest gym in town costs about $90/month for an individual membership. Yikes!

I'm pretty happy with my gym. The cost is $20 a month but I signed a contract for 2 years. I figured it would take me that long to lose the weight anyway. I added my husband to my membership for $10 extra a month. They offer trainers for no extra charge. I love my gym.

I agree, the YMCA is expensive and that is why we gave up our family membership.
