Average size?

Hi ladies, I posted something similar on another board but I wanted to know your opinion also...
I've read that the average size in America was a size 8 and I also read it was a size 14...Which one is it? Also, what do you consider a plus size? And finally, when you're "measuring" your size, what stores do you use as a guide? I usually use Old navy and the GAP.
Thank you in advance!
Lulu

Considering the average american is overweight, I believe the average size is a 12 which I read somewhere on a national site. I also believe plus is now considered an 18(same site). It also has alot to do with your body. I knew a woman in Texas that wore a size 18 but she wasnt fat. She had a "getto booty" as she would call it but I thought she was an average size. So how you carry your weight really matters too. Hope I helped.

Wow I don't know what the average size for americans is. I think right now in american there aren't many "average" people ..either WAY too skinny or overweight. So I would say the average is probably around 8 .. I dunno..
I consider plus size 18+ -- I know mass market doesn't. I have no desire to be smaller than a 12 .. my goal is 16/18 though. So I'm a little different. I think it depends on the culture too. Since there is such a diverse cultrul in america with just americans.. then consider all the different ethnic grops that have come to america. Where my family is from "skinny" girls are not ok-they are considered weak and fragile which is not ok.
Where I live athletic is a big thing.. so there are a lot of "thin" and not so thin athelic women who are all considered ok.. I just don't know.
I use to go by Old Navy type stores -- I now have a more Lane Bryant approach. I don't think the average female should HAVE to shop at Lane Bryant though. I think Old Navy should cover the average person. The regular line, not the plus size line.
I don't know what is considered "average" these days, but I do know that when my daughter was modeling just eight years ago, the "industry" considered a size 10 and up as "plus size", which absolutely floored me. I think it's gotten a little more realistic now, but not by much if you watch those "America's Next Model" shows. Personally, I would kill to be a size 10 again since I haven't been since High School.
Sideline: Did anyone catch the "Oprah" show today where she showed that Dove is using these beautiful NORMAL women to model and advertize their newest products??? That is what I'd call average and normal sized women, and NONE of them were stick figures. It's about time the "industry" started using REAL women to sell to real women. YEA DOVE!
