I know we preach and preach about drinking LOTS of water and i admit that is one of my major short comings but other than it being good for your skin and kidneys, etc...are their really any longterm WEIGHT reasons for drinking lots of water? I know if you dont drink a lot of water you retain a lot of water but i mean over the long haul...does water really make a difference with weight loss? I have heard it has something to do with metabolism, does anybody else know the reasons for drinking water that are weight realted?

By drinking soooo much water you not only cleanse the body of impurities but as you lose the weight your skin will maintain its elasticity and will or is supposed to shrink back. Mind you when you are like me and some of the other women on the board over the 300# mark it may take longer to shrink or it may not completely shrink it is supposed to help. As long as you only lose 1-2 lbs a week and drink all your water it will help. I read on another board (cant remember which one) that a lady was almost 400 pounds and went down to 180 and her skin snapped back and she was in her late 30's. It was a site giving info on how to get back your body without surgery. I drink 12 oz glasses of water a day myself and while I know things like my tummy will always be flabby especially after 7 kids, other places like my arms are shrinking. It also helps that water is something we need and its good for us and I find its a great way to avoid temptations. When its between meals and I am hungry I drink my water and my tummy thinks it is full. Hope I helped somewhat. If I ever find that site again I will be sure to post it here. Try looking on the net there are tons of great informative sites.

With the ever growing population, the amount of thrown away goods increases daily. Why not give that unwanted item to someone who may be able to use it? We've all got things lying around we just don't use. That's where Freecycle comes in.

It also wards of ketosis and the damaging effects therein, i.e. kidney stones and excess ketones in the blood.

Or something.

I drink it because it's free. :)

There was a very interesting debate about this here a while ago. Someone was posting that the "8 cups a day" rule is NOT actually necessary, and that we get most of the water that we need daily from our regular foods, and from what we drink when we feel thirsty. She had some pretty good research on it, so I did a little investigating of my own. Turns out, I can't find ANY evidence that large amounts of water aid weight loss, or are beneficial to health (note that I'm NOT saying it is bad or harmful - so for all of you who love your water, keep on drinking! ;-) No one can debate the problems caused by DEhydration - that is very, very bad for the body - but no research that *I've* been able to find confirms that excess water is necessary. And I've seen some diets that require MUCH higher water consumption - like 1/2 an ounce per pound of body weight. I can't even IMAGINE me trying to dring 18 cups a day!! AFter that researching, I no longer worry about pushing fluids - I just make sure that pure, fresh water is my drink of choice when I AM thirsty, when I have a meal, and after I exercise. BONUS: I'm not up 4 times a night to pee! LOL
ps - that lost comment reminded me that one way to tell if you are getting "enough" water is to look at the colour of your urine - it should be very pale. If it is dark yellow and strong smelling, you are likely dehydrated.

Heck yeah! Water basically cleans your inside out! It helps take the fat out! We think of water we think of urine but there is always water in .. that other stuff. It helps transport all that bad stuff right out..yeah.. and down the toilet! ha ha! Sorry -- I'm too simple!

I also have an issue with drinking water. If I have cold, bottled water on hand at all times I'm good to go. But um, well it isn't always available that way! (Plus I only drink certain brands of bottled water) I can tell you from expereince it does help with weight loss. Also, if you are working out you can get ill if you are not hydrating your body enough. Dehydration happens quicker than most people think. Its not a desert only thing. My step son had to go to the hospital from dehydration once. He is 10. Because he wasn't drinking enough water but he was playing outside in the summer. Simple!

When your busting butt on the dreadmill and sweatin' just remember you need to replace all that sweat. I would prefer to not replace it and just not sweat-- but that doesn't work!

It is hard but try to drink as much as you can.

I just read mom2morgan's post -- I agree that there is no point to "excessive" water. Drinking 8 gallons of water a day is not going to help you lose weight. Depending on your diet you do get good water in your food. Although, most americans eat too much processed food to really get that. You would need to eat fresh food -- not meat stored in "whatever" liquid or veggies re-hydrated. Those do not have the same affect as cutting up your own veggies for beef stew -- or whatever. I can say in my house we rarely eat out of a box -- most people do. If you eat out of a box most the time -- your not getting enough water in that. Your getting all that crap they put in the food.

We don't eat out of boxes here either. But I can tell you that 2 different times that I was very successful with weight loss I was drinking at least 80 to 100 oz a day. I was also walking A LOT!! But, I too have read that you get most of what you need from a good diet. Stephanie

I found this info that may help everyone determine if their intake is sufficient or not.
