So I had a dr's apt recently and we were talking about how she thinks I have PCOS (even tho my blood work doesn't really match the levels, she thinks I have it).

Weight watchers, while a good diet is not really diabetic freindly...WW motto is you can eat anything you want if you stay within your points. With diabetes you will need to watch your sugars/carbs. There are ALOT of books out there for diabetics though and it is a great "diet" to follow.

Some tips would be, if you are going to have something sweet, even a fruit, you should pair it with a protien...such as if you are going to eat a peach...add some yogert or cottage cheese to it. Also exercise keeps your sugar regulated. Get some good cook books for diabetics...their are just shelves and shelves of books for that at books-a-million and big chain book stores.

I thought the WW core plan was kinda a low carb/low sugar diet.

the old weight watchers way was a diabetic diet where you were allowed so many proteins, breads, fats fruits and milks.
i still have the information i will post it if you like, and theres tons of information out there on the internet you can also find it if you look up on the internet food exchange and that brings up some helpful sites.
hope this helps

From what I've read and heard, you want to stay away from foods that will cause a spike in your bloodsugar. There are numerous charts on the net that lists foods with a low glycemic index, and books as well out there that you can probably pick up at the library. The lower the glycemic index, the more stabalized your bloodsugars...which then means your pancreas isn't working in overdrive to make insulin.

The Zone is a diet that promotes balancing your foods to keep your bloodsugars from spiking.I read parts of the book, but didn't find it appealing much...not to mention that my boss was on it and I would try and eat like her(only less because she was a gym rat)and I didn't lose anything.

And your right, lean meats, lots of veggies(though there are some that aren't as good and will raise bloodsugars quickly..same as some fruits are better then others),fruits, and complex carbohydrates.

Oh i remember that now about weight watchers, that is how they did it back in the 80's i think. I dont know if they still support that plan but that is how we did it in the 80's, the last time i did weight watchers it was all about points and not having any "forbidden" foods. There are probably easier access plans out there now, since that isnt the focus of WW anymore...have you ever heard of "Sugar Busters"? i think it is geared for a diabetics way of life. And I think "The Zone" is too but not sure. I have found that a diabetic geared way of eating, whether you are diabetic or not is just a fabulous way to lose weight. As long as you keep that blood glucose steady, the weight will come off easier, or it does for me anyway.

I am sorry to hear that you may have PCOS, but hopefully this will help. I think Core might be ok since you are supposed to eat whole grains and are not allowed foods with a lot of sugar. You would just have to be careful not to eat a lot of high sugar foods or carbs with the 35 extra points you are allowed a week. I know at my last meeting there was a man who was doing ww. He had been on insulin and pills and had gotten down to just the pills.

When i was told I was insulin resistant the Dr. put me on Sugar Busters. I think it and South Beach are pretty much the same thing. You were only allowed to eat whole grains like whole wheat bread and brown rice. You also had to limit your fruit intake. ( I think it was 2 a day which is very reasonable.)Both stress also watching your fat intake and eating lower fat cuts of meat. Both diets are supposed to help you lower you blood sugar levels.

I would do my research. Your library should have copies of all the eating plans. If you decide to do something like the core plan or south beach take it to your Dr and see what she thinks.
