Hi All. I'm kinda New. Been reading your boards and posted a few. Let me introduce myself first. I'm 34 mom of 4 kids ages 15 - 2. I started working out 8 weeks ago. THis is my ninth week. My starting weight was 245. My current weight is 238. I have lost 7 lbs so far.. which was from 3 weeks ago. I go to the Gym m-f. I do treadmill for 30 -45 min. running 1 min. every 10 min. Sometimes I do treadmill 30 min and bike 15. I do weights m W F. I also started doing crunches and leg lifts. I eat much better than I use to. I dont eat out hardley anymore, I make chicken, brocclie, green beans salad and use whole grain bread and pasta. Breakfast I eat a high fiber ceral and take a vitamin. I Started drinking diet colas instead of reg. I may cheat a few times, cause my goal is to eat healthy, not trying to say the word DIEt. SO as Fat as I am and with all the changes, seems I should be losing more. esp with all the workout I do. Is there supplements that would help or am i not working out enough? I need details please of what is helping others. I am getting so discouraged. I have to drag myself to the gym now.. cause I know scale is just not moving. and there is no way I am on a platue this soon...
Grrrr helP! ...I need to lose! Thanks

well, one thing is that with all the working out, you are probably building muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. so you probably have lost fat, and gained muscle. do you feel like you have toned/firmed up at all? that's what happened to me, the stupid scale wasn't moving, but i noticed i wasn't as "jiggly" as usual.
also, i know how hard it is to keep wanting the pounds to come off and those numbers won't go down at all! sometimes, it's harder for some people. our bodies get so used to being a certain way that they don't want to change. i've been overweight for a long time, and i am slowly losing weight, but not as quickly as i want to. my body thinks i'm depriving it or starving it by cutting out sugar and carbs, so it's holding onto as many fat cells as it can. you will start losing, don't worry, and don't give up!!
Honey, I'm the queen of plateaus. It is discouraging, I know, but you can't give up and ruin all your hard work. I am in week 9 since I started my new plan. I lost about 18 pounds in the first month (most is water weight of course). And for a month now I only lost 2 pounds.
If you're losing inches, then you're on the right track. See if there are any small changes, like your rings being a bit looser, a pair of pants that are a bit roomy, your face looking not so puffed up anymore, etc. If this is the case, then you're losing fat, but gaining muscle. So the scale isn't changing, but your body is getting smaller. That's what we all want right?
If you're not losing inches either, check if you're eating enough calories or try to change your eating routine a bit.
Whatever you do. Don't give up!! Those 7 lbs were not easy to lose right? There is no need to ruin your hard work. Just keep going!! We're all here to support and cheer you.
Good luck

I know how discouraging it can be to think you are doing everything right, but still the weight is slow to come off. I have been dieting/working out since the middle of July and only lost a little over 12 pounds. I would like it to be faster, but at least I am losing. Even this slow if I keep at it, in a year I will be at my goal.
You might try writing everything you eat for a few days. I know you are not wanting to do a formal diet, but journaling can give you an overall picture of how you are doing. It may be that you are eating more than you realize. Even healthy food can add up. Or it could be that you are not eating enough. If you don't eat enough your body thinks it is starving and will hold onto extra weight. Finally, if you are eating the same thing everyday try switching things around. Some days eat a little more than others.
If you want to track your calories go to Fitday.com
good luck, sharla
Are you on any medicines that can raise your insulin? I know the board has heard this before from me, BUT, especially antidepressants...i could not lose a single pound on Lexapro...i switched to wellbutrin and the weight started to fall off. Dont ask your doctor about this because they dont know...or mine didnt anyway...i had to do research on the internet about women that are "predisposed to be overweight" and how that medicine effected them.
But if your sure its not any of your meds, i would definately keep a food journal...you may be eating far more or less than what you think. I would think that i did great one day and then once i wrote it all down (and i mean wrote it all down)...that little pat of butter here (100 cals)...little olive oil there (120 cals) can add up before you even know it.
If none of that helps i would have a TSH, (thyroid test or other type of blood work to see what the problem is...possibly even diabetes).
Good luck and hope you find out and can start losing soon. I know it is terribly frustrating.

Somebody probably already said this, but you're doing a lot of weight training. I bet you're building muscle. I only do weight training 4x a week, a half an hour at a time, with circuit training. The rest of the week, I don't do anything. I will probably start doing some cardio to speed up things, but I'm so lazy lol. I have a bike, but it's hard getting motivated to sit on that thing for 45 minutes and stare at nothing (although I have an iPod). I ordered some videos so I can mix it up, but I don't know when amazon will deliver them.
All I can do is tell you what I do. I eat about 1250-1400/day. I eat every three hours, and leave dinner 500 calories of room since it's around that time I'm starving. My journal shows what I'm eating right now. I don't do vitamins, but I do eat these awesome nutrition bars by Pria that taste like girl scout chocolate mint cookies and rice crispy treats (drool -- see my post in the suggestion section), and I get the rest from veggies, meat, and good carbs like wheat bread and such.
I drink 24 oz of milk every day. That might also help. It has 8g of protein per serving, and 12g of good carbs. When I drink it with meals, or after meals, I feel very full. I'm guessing this is because milk curdles in your stomach, thus producing the feeling. They also say it helps you to lose more weight than those who don't drink it. (www.2424milk.com)
I also drink 64 oz of water. I've always drunk water, though, because it's free (except for the cost of the Brita water filters), and you can't beat free. I have water with every snack/meal. It helps me to feel full, too. I wonder if it aids with digestion? I also drink tea, like Genmaicha (brown rice tea), when I'm hungry and don't want to snack.
And now for dessert! For chocolate fixes, I drink sugar free hot cocoa by Nestle. It's 25 calories per serving. Sometime I have it after dinner with warm milk right before bed. I also eat lots of sugar free jello. There are also sugar free hard candies out there you can eat for when you just want something to chew on.
Well, I hope this helps you out. Thus far, I've lost 28 lbs since August 17th. The first month (August 17th - September 14th) I lost 12 pounds without milk, then lost 16 lbs the second month (September 15th - October 14th) after I cut back to 1400 from 1600 and added milk to the regime.
Hope this helps!

You gave me real good details... that is really gonna help me. You started around same time I did. I am really gonna try hard to do those tips you gave me.
It is so great when you get to read someone elses details on how they are doing it. Makes you rethink what you are doing and gives inspiration to work harder.
Thank you again,
Susan
