First of all I want to thank all who replied to my post on why I am not losing. Starting monday I am going to keep a food log. Does anyone know how many calories I should be eating to lose weight? Im 138lbs 35 yr and guessing around 5'5" tall. What about how many Fat,carbs per day?
Also ... I just read the Dr phil book ultimate weight loss. anyone else read that or is trying to do what he says. It has good stuff in there. A
Thanks

Susan, did I read your post correctly that you weigh 138 pounds and are 5'5. If so you are just about where you should be for your height and weight. That may be one of the reasons why the weight is coming off slower. The less you have to lose the slower it comes off.

1500 calories is a good number for weight loss. They say you should have a ratio of 25% protein, 50% carbs, and 25 % fat. If you are still feeling hungry at the end of the day try adding more fruits and veggies to your day. They will fill you up without lots of extra calories. You can go below the 1500, but I wouldn't go below 1000 calories. That would not be healthy.

Check out fitday.com. It helps you count your calories, fat, activity level etc.

I think that was a "freudian slip" - she mentioned below that she is 238. I do that ALL the time - accidentally writing my weight 100 pounds lower than it is, LOL - 186 instead of 286. Oh, if life were that easy...:-)

Oh my... I WISH I was 138.... That was definantly a typo. Im 238. Sorry bout that.. So 1500 cal for my weight is what I should be eating a day? I went somewhere that said I should eat more. And I also heard that if you go to low it is not good cause your body will get use to a low number and you wont lose.

That is true. You don't want to go too low.I am not sure the exact number for your weight. There are so many sources out there each with a different answer. Try to higher number for a few weeks and see if you lose. Then as your weight goes lower you can lower the number of calories. The source I found said start at 1500 and play with it. If you are hungry add more calories and if you aren't losing then lower the number of calories. The thing to remember is that this book is very general. It is for people who want to lose 10 pounds and people who want to lose 100. What did your sight say?
