I am new here, so bear with me, please. I am a married woman, just turned 31. I don't have kids, but I do have plenty of nieces and nephews. I am 5'5" and weigh approximately 375 pounds. I came across this message board while surfing the web (my favorite hobby, I might add)and figured, a little support can't hurt. I have decided that starting today, I want to get these extra pounds as far away from me as humanly possible. So, I have vowed to begin eating healthy. (this means foregoing the leftover birthday cake and candy which currently reside in my kitchen.) I read somewhere that the more overweight you are, the more water you are supposed to drink daily just to stay hydrated. Is this true?? If so, I'm in for a drowning! *LOL* If one "normal" size woman is supposed to drink 6-8 glasses a day, does this mean I have to drink enough for 3 women? Any tips on how to begin this journey would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am new here also. I am 5'4" and weigh 350lbs. I guess we better get to guzzling. I have often wondered the exact samething. Like you, I am up for any advice. I joined the gym and have a personal trainer for a month. They suggested South Beach and my doctor agrees, so here I am off to a new path. I am hoping this one leads me to success. I am going to make this one lead me to success, but any advice and pushing in the right direction is greatly welcome.

Hey guys and welcome. I am still somewhat new here and this board is just great. So much support and it is so nice to be surrounded by people who when they talk about losing weight, arnt just talking about those 5-10 vanity pounds...with us it is a whole different ballgame and it helps to have others around you who can totally relate.

About the water, my doc said that that 6-8 glasses of water a day is based on a 150 pound woman...that at my weight, 275, i need about 8 to 12 or more in the summer, depending how much you sweat and activity level of course. But really i just try to keep water handy and constantly sip on it.

The biggest advice i can give is to not think of this as a "diet"...with us, it has to be a "lifestyle" or you end up like me...losing 100 pounds and gaining back 100 pounds...that is some major yo-yoing. But i fell out of step with the healthy lifestyle and before i knew it i gained it all back. So now i am back on track and have my eyes on the prize.

Good luck to you both and keep on posting.

Hi

Funny thing that you should mention how much water to drink.I read this article about water. It said: water is the medium in which most cellular activity take place, including the transport ad burning of fat. It makes you fill full and eat less. Drink @ least 1 ounce of water per 2 poinds of bodyweight aday ( that's 100 ounce for a 200 pound person )

I know I will be making a lot of trips to the bathroom too !!!!!!! Good luck and welcome to the board.
