I am so confused at to what works. Is it low carb, low calorie, low fat? I am 29, 5’7 and am at my highest weight ever – 230lbs – never felt worse. The worse I feel the more I eat. I have tried everything. Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, atkins, south beach… You name it. I need to do something and I need to do it now. What works? Where do I start? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I just want my life back!!!!

(((((february)))))),

I'm sorry that you're feeling so frustrated...I hope what I'm about to say doesn't offend anyone, as it is not intentional...

Personally, I feel that people get too "wrapped up" in fad diets...some of those diets are so constricting, how can anyone reasonably expect to succeed for the long-term? Sure, they may take off pounds quickly, but if you're looking for being healthy for "the long haul", they probably aren't your best bet. What does work?

I dont think Lori could have said it better. I whole heartedly agree. Nothing works except good ol' effort. Low cal healthy foods and excercise...that is not what people want to hear but that is what works...i have been on EVERY diet known to man and the only one that worked was low cal and exercise unfortunately.

I also agree that everyone gets too wrapped up in the hope and empty promises of the quick fix diets...if they really were that easy...dont you think everyone would be skinny by now. My grandmother is the WORST about it. She came in the other day with a magazine boasting "LOSE 10 POUNDS EVERY WEEK"...she was all excited about it...that was the whole reason she bought the mag...i just shook my head at her. I may lose 10 pounds the first week with that diet but what happens on week number 20 for example...well i will tell you what would be happening with me...i would be binging and gain back more than i lost in the first place. Health is a lifestyle...not a trick. ;-)

Suppposedly, all diets and programs work if you work them and stick it out.

Of the plans that you have been on, which was the easiest or MOST successful? Sometimes you have to try a lot of different ones before you hit what works. For the record, I agree in THEORY with the above poster about sensible eating, but it doesn't work for me because it does nothing to control my carb cravings. For myself, I realized that low carb plans WORKED, but I knew I couldnt' stick with something like Atkins or South Beach long term. It took me a lot of years, but I finally hit on "the G.I. Diet" by Rick Gallop. IT is low carb enough to control my appetite and cravings, but "normal" enough food to actually eat forever. I've lost 30 pounds since July 25th, and dieting has NEVER been this easy for me! I'd start with what worked even a little and tweak it until you figure out just what your body needs.

Every doctor I've ever had has said to reduce in the intake and increase the output. They never really get into detail abotu a lot of these fad diets.

All I've been doing is eating less and moving more. I have been drinking more milk, eating more vegetables (those with low calories ), and... that's about it. For me, it's all calories.

I think everyone here is doing something different, and they're still doing well. I guess it depends on what you can really follow and get into, you know? I'm motivated by my wallet (smile), but it might be something different for you.

Just read the advice from people here and borrow their ideas. See what works, what doesn't, and go from there. I did! :)

You can do it!
